Key Responsibilities

As a Customer Service Representative - Water Billing, you will be responsible for:

  • Responding to routine telephone inquiries from the public and other city departments, providing accurate information and resolving issues related to prior service connections, disconnections, transfers, extensions of payment, sewer/water averaging, and billing explanations.
  • Entering change of service information into our data system and verifying customer details.
  • Maintaining accurate computer records, including change of address, type of service used, comment files, and non-payment accounts lists.
  • Posting to simple numerical records and operating a variety of basic office equipment.
  • Utilizing a two-way radio to communicate with colleagues and receive messages and information.
  • Providing exceptional customer service, resolving issues promptly, and maintaining a positive attitude.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A strong typing speed of 35 WPM, as demonstrated by a typing test.
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • The ability to maintain customer confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Familiarity with various office machines and operation techniques.
  • Basic arithmetic skills and the ability to read, understand, and interpret city policies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • A valid operator's license with a good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications would be beneficial:

  • Completion of at least one course in general office practices at or above the high school level or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in a customer-facing role, preferably in a water billing or utility services environment.
  • Familiarity with data entry systems and software applications.
