Senior Data Engineer – Remote Fleet Analytics & Big Data Solutions for arenaflex – $23‑$40/hr – Advanced AI‑Driven Automotive & Energy Insights
Why arenaflex?
arenaflex is a global leader in sustainable transportation and clean‑energy technologies. With a portfolio that spans electric vehicles, high‑speed charging infrastructure, and intelligent grid‑management systems, arenaflex is redefining how people move and how power is delivered. Our mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to renewable energy by building products that are safe, efficient, and delightful to use. As part of this mission, data is the lifeblood of every decision – from autonomous driving algorithms to battery‑health monitoring and charger‑network optimization. If you thrive on turning massive data streams into actionable insights that shape the future of mobility, you’ve found the right place.
Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Data Engineer to join our Remote Fleet Analytics team. This team serves as the analytical backbone for all of arenaflex’s vehicle, charger, and energy‑device data. You will design, build, and maintain high‑performance data pipelines, develop reusable analytics tools, and partner with engineers across hardware, firmware, and software domains to embed data‑driven decision‑making into every product release.
Key Responsibilities
- End‑to‑end data platform development: Architect, implement, and scale data pipelines on a modern AWS‑based stack (S3, Spark, Trino) that ingest petabytes of telemetry from vehicles, Superchargers, and grid‑connected devices.
- Tooling & library creation: Build reusable Python/SQL libraries, Jupyter notebooks, and visualization dashboards (Bokeh, Superset) that enable engineers to explore data without writing boilerplate code.
- Stakeholder collaboration: Partner with product, mechanical, electrical, and firmware teams to translate business requirements into robust data solutions that drive product improvements.
- Best‑practice advocacy: Define and champion data‑engineering standards, code review processes, and testing frameworks to ensure high quality, maintainable code across the organization.
- Performance optimization: Continuously monitor and tune data pipelines for latency, cost, and reliability, leveraging Airflow for orchestration and Spark/Trino for distributed processing.
- Insight communication: Summarize complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leadership and cross‑functional teams.
- Full‑stack development: Contribute to both backend services (REST APIs, data services) and front‑end visualization components that empower self‑serve analytics.
- Mentorship & knowledge sharing: Guide junior engineers, host brown‑bag sessions, and document best practices to foster a culture of continuous learning.
Essential Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional software development experience, with a focus on data engineering or analytics.
- Expert‑level proficiency in Python and SQL, including experience writing clean, testable, and well‑documented code.
- Hands‑on experience with distributed data processing engines such as Apache Spark and query engines like Trino/Presto.
- Deep familiarity with data‑science toolkits: Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib/Bokeh, and Jupyter.
- Proven track record designing and operating large‑scale data pipelines (ETL/ELT) that handle petabyte‑scale workloads.
- Strong statistical foundation and ability to apply statistical methods to real‑world engineering problems.
- Experience building data visualizations and dashboards that translate raw data into intuitive insights.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving mindset with a bias for action, humility, and a collaborative spirit.
Preferred (Nice‑to‑Have) Qualifications
- Proficiency in Scala or other JVM languages for Spark development.
- Understanding of distributed storage concepts (HDFS, S3) and how they interact with processing engines.
- Experience with DevOps tooling: Linux, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Background in working with complex hardware systems and telemetry data.
- Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices for data‑centric applications.
Core Skills & Competencies
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect large, noisy datasets and extract meaningful patterns.
- Software Engineering Discipline: Test‑driven development, version control (Git), code reviews, and documentation.
- Collaboration: Comfortable working in cross‑functional, remote teams across multiple time zones.
- Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑moving environment where priorities shift based on product needs.
- Customer‑Centric Mindset: Always consider how data solutions improve the end‑user experience and safety.
Career Growth & Learning Opportunities
arenaflex invests heavily in employee development. As a senior member of the Fleet Analytics group, you will have access to:
- Mentorship from industry leaders in autonomous systems, battery technology, and cloud analytics.
- Sponsored certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics, Apache Spark, Kubernetes).
- Internal hackathons and innovation labs where you can prototype cutting‑edge AI models for vehicle health prediction.
- Clear promotion pathways from Senior Engineer to Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, and eventually Technical Fellow.
- Opportunities to rotate into adjacent domains such as firmware engineering, mechanical design, or product management.
