Payroll Accounting Analyst [Remote]

Overview and Responsibilities: We are seeking a Payroll Analyst who will be tasked with ensuring the accuracy of payroll‑related financial data, maintaining detailed payroll records, and supporting accounting operations related to employee compensation. This role requires a detail‑oriented professional with robust analytical skills who can collaborate proficiently with HR, Finance, and other internal teams to ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory standards, and reporting requirements. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Reconcile weekly and monthly payroll expenses, liabilities, and accruals to divisional GL files
• Reconcile payroll balance sheet accounts, review and tackle discrepancies in payroll-related transactions, and ensure proper documentation for all payroll accounting entries
• Assist with the preparation and distribution of the monthly equity reconciliation
• Prepare and distribute recurring and ad hoc payroll divisional accounting reports
• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities for payroll accounts, ensuring accuracy in financial statements
• Provide support for internal and external audit reporting requests and periodic SOX compliance testing
• Coordinate with Finance/IT on changes affecting payroll accounting and participate in testing of associated system enhancements
• Participate in process improvement initiatives and system upgrades that impact payroll accounting functions
• Special projects as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

• 3+ years of payroll accounting experience
• Experience using large-scale payroll and accounting systems
• Proficiency with advanced Excel formulas and pivot tables; insight into using data access software, query reporting tools
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and work well under fast-changing conditions
• Initiative-taking with exemplary follow-up skills
• Demonstrated experience in interpreting payroll results and costing in the General Ledger

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
