Join the esteemed Disney Diversion and ESPN Technology (DE&ET) team as a Lead Data Engineer and be at the forefront of shaping the future of entertainment and sports media. Our Information and Investigation group, a vital part of Disney's web-based features, is seeking a highly skilled and passionate data professional to drive the development of advanced data solutions. As a key member of our Commitment and Retention Data Engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in designing and building data products and warehouses that inform business decisions and drive customer engagement.

About the Role

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will be responsible for contributing to the design and development of our data products and data warehouses focused on Engagement and Retention Analytics and Data Science. Your expertise will be crucial in crafting scalable data warehousing solutions, building ETL pipelines in large data environments, and ensuring high operational efficiency and quality of our data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable data warehousing solutions, building ETL pipelines in large data environments (cloud, on-prem, hybrid) using technologies like Hadoop, AWS, Snowflake, Flink, and Wind stream.
  • Engineer data solutions/structures and define data models for our critical data warehouse and data marts, collaborating with Data Product Managers, Data Modelers, and Data Architects to deliver successful data solutions.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of your work and changes to support data quality and data governance, ensuring high operational efficiency and quality of our data solutions to meet SLAs and support our clients (Data Science, Data Analytics teams).
  • Be an active member and advocate of agile/scrum practices to ensure safety and process improvements for your team, driving continuous innovation and excellence.

Essential Qualifications

To excel in this role, you must possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related disciplines).
  • Strong SQL skills and the ability to craft queries to extract insights and build performant datasets.
  • Hands-on experience with distributed systems like Flink, Hadoop (HDFS, Hive, Voila, PySpark) to query and process data.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python, Java/Scala.
  • Experience with at least one major MPP or cloud database technology (Snowflake, Redshift, Big Query).
  • Strong experience with data integration toolsets (e.g., Wind current) and writing and maintaining Data Pipelines.
  • Solid understanding of Data Modeling methodologies and Data Warehousing best practices.
  • Familiarity with Scrum and Agile methodologies.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with attention to detail and outstanding analytical and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Cloud technologies like AWS (S3, EMR, EC2).
  • A proven track record of delivering high-impact data solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in the data engineering space.
