Rehabilitation - Assistive Technology Specialist - Part-time

For more information about the organisation: JOB CONTEXT: The Rehabilitation Technical Division includes 13 staff members (2 managers, 8 specialists, 1 PDO, 1 project officer, and 1 assistant) responsible for providing technical support and frameworks to HI programs worldwide, leading research and innovation projects, and representing HI externally. The rehabilitation mandate applies in both humanitarian and development contexts. This position has been created as part of an internal reorganization of the Rehabilitation team. YOUR MISSION: This role does not include regular support to operations/programs and projects (except in emergencies or ad hoc requests for evaluation or quality control). Minimal field missions, except for network activities requiring travel. Mission 1 (30%) – Main function expected in technical expertise:

  • Contribute to the framework and standards for technical know-how in Assistive Technology (AT), and improve technical knowledge through lessons learned, research, and innovation projects;
  • Monitor WHO standards (contact person for “GATE”) and translate recommendations into operational actions (priority AT products, TAP training, supply chain strategies);
  • Manage the global toolbox for program benefit;
  • Explore and apply new technologies to meet AT needs, especially 3D printing.

Mission 2 (10%) – Opportunity Development:

  • Contribute to the development of major opportunities or new AT-oriented projects;
  • Monitor sectoral AT analyses in programs, data analysis, and macro-level strategic recommendations in anticipation of funding calls.

Mission 3 (5%) – Influence:

  • Enhance HI’s international reputation and influence in AT activities;
  • Monitor AT stakeholders and donor networks, with specific follow-up on ISWP and AT scale;
  • Maintain agreements and communication efforts.

Mission 4 (5%) – Professional Development:

  • Contribute to the Community of Practice (CoP) focused on cognitive and sensory communication AT.

Ad Hoc Mission – Emergency Preparedness and Response Responsibilities. ACCESSIBILITY OF THE POSITION:

  • Easily accessible by public transport (bus, metro). Car parking and bike racks available;
  • Building includes ramps and elevators for better mobility;
  • Workstations are in open spaces, with quiet boxes available on each floor;
  • Bright and well-lit workspace;
  • A disability officer is available to assist with any questions or needs. The position can be adapted based on individual requirements.

Requirements

YOUR PROFILE:

  • Occupational therapist, orthotist/prosthetist, or other qualified AT professional, with a focus on mobility. Master’s degree preferred;
  • Specialized and experienced rehabilitation professional in mobility-focused AT;
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience in rehabilitation, with clinical experience in both high-income and low-/middle-income countries (LMICs);
  • At least 3 years of relevant field experience in LMICs;
  • Experience in emergency and Nexus contexts, knowledge of international standards and current networks;
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in using new technologies in professional practice, including user-centered FabLab/HumanLab dynamics.
