Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher to join our team at Norwalk Public Schools. As an ASL Teacher, you will play a vital role in instructing students in the specific area of specialty, helping them learn subject matter and skills that will broaden their learning experiences and contribute to their development. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that achieve clear objectives and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom
  • Manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment
  • Assess student learning on a continual basis and identify areas of intervention, if needed
  • Communicate with parents and keep them up-to-date on student progress through interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences
  • Participate in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement

Requirements:

  • Active CDE 057 or 024 Certification; or may hold any other teaching certificate with an ASLPI (Cut Score 3+)
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • High School Teaching Experience preferred
  • Fluency in American Sign Language required
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Effective, active listening skills and ability to work effectively with others
