Job Summary MNC JOBS INFO is excited to partner with USAA Real Estate in seeking a Development Accounting Director in San Antonio, TX. This role is a strategic leadership position, responsible for overseeing all accounting aspects related to development projects. You will manage a team of accounting professionals, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in financial reporting. Your expertise will support critical decision-making in a dynamic, fast-paced real estate development environment.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the development accounting team in handling financial reporting, project budgets, and cost analysis for all development projects.
- *
Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX, and internal policies.
- *
Partner closely with the development, finance, and asset management teams to deliver accurate and timely reporting.
- *
Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements related to development projects.
- *
Manage audits and coordinate with external auditors and consultants.
- *
Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures tailored to complex real estate transactions.
- *
Monitor project budgets and forecasts, providing variance analysis and strategic recommendations to leadership.
- *
Serve as a key resource for technical accounting issues related to joint ventures, partnerships, and complex financial structures.
- *
Mentor and grow a high-performing accounting team, providing professional development and performance evaluations.
- Required Skills and Qualifications
- *
Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Masters preferred).
- *
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
- *
Strong knowledge of US GAAP, specifically related to real estate and development accounting.
- *
Exceptional leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- *
Advanced proficiency in accounting software (Yardi, JD Edwards, or similar ERP systems).
- *
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- *
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working across teams and with external partners.
- Experience
- *
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years focused on real estate development accounting.
- *
5+ years in a leadership or management role.
- *
Experience working with large-scale real estate portfolios or developments highly preferred.
- *
Previous experience at a real estate investment firm, REIT, or a top-tier public accounting firm is a plus.
- Working Hours

Full-Time Position
- *
Standard business hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (with flexibility during critical periods such as quarter-end and year-end closing).

In-depth understanding of construction draw processes, capital calls, and project cost accounting.

Familiarity with real estate joint venture structures and related accounting treatment.
- *
Proactive approach to identifying risks and implementing best practices.
