Junior Linguist - Full-time Temporary Contract

Remote role Full-time Open position
Mango Languages is seeking a Linguist with exceptional content instincts to lead an ambitious development initiative. The Linguist will be responsible for planning and executing a clear strategy for long-form content across multiple products, maintaining high-quality standards—even in languages the candidate may not speak—and ensuring that projects remain on schedule. Close collaboration with linguists, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams is essential, along with clear, consistent communication and thorough documentation. Ideal candidates will bring a background in linguistics, a passion for global cultures, and a deep understanding of what makes content effective and engaging. Experience with language-learning tools and creating diverse content types—such as articles, songs, and stories—is key, as is a strong comfort level using AI tools responsibly. The role will require cultural sensitivity, organizational efficiency, and a collaborative spirit, with a bonus for those who have proficiency in less commonly taught or non-Indo European languages. Candidates must be adaptable, communicative, and motivated by a love of language learning and cross-cultural exchange. The contract for this position is tied to a specific project and will therefore last through project completion (likely 6-9 months). Contract extensions and/or conversion to employee status are a possibility if the project is extended and collaboration is successful.

Responsibilities

  • Lead content development efforts by working with subject matter experts to generate educational content for world language and ESL learners
  • Craft engaging, culturally-rich, fiction and non-fiction texts for language learners on a wide range of topics
  • Develop and deliver on a content strategy for multiple products while keeping to a release calendar
  • Ensure that content adheres to Mango Languages’ high quality standards, including content in languages you are not familiar with
  • Plan and organize work so that teams keep project timelines
  • Collaborate closely with other linguists and stakeholders to drive the project toward the desired goal
  • Communicate effectively so that all teams understand expectations
  • Create and maintain organized documentation
  • Attend and participate in regular team meetings
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding content development team members

Job Requirements

  • B.A. or M.A. in Linguistics or a related field
  • Exceptional instincts for what constitutes engaging content
  • Affinity for using AI tools, balanced with an understanding of their limitations
  • Must have a global mindset and be eager to learn about other cultures
  • Must have general linguistic knowledge of languages from different families
  • Experience creating articles, stories, passages, songs, or other content
  • Experience using language-learning products
  • Native or near-native English speaker
  • Reliable internet connection

Key Characteristics

  • Enthusiasm for sharing the love of learning languages
  • Strong attention to cultural nuance and sensitivity
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong skills in giving and receiving feedback
  • Able to easily learn and adapt to new technology
  • Strong communication skills and responsiveness
  • Positive energy

Bonus

  • Strong proficiency in one or more non-Indo European languages
