Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence. SOME's family housing includes playgrounds and community spaces for the enrichment of the children and adults in residence. Children living in our family services programs attend SOME Place for Kids, after-school tutoring, and an enrichment program that supports their educational and social development needs. SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently seeking a part-time after-school Education Program Assistant for our Family Services program at Fendall Street in SE Washington, DC. Position Description: The Education Program Assistant provides assistance with youth programming and educational activities for children 5-16 years old. Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm; Friday 12noon - 4:00 pm (20 hours/week), on-site COVID-19 Considerations: In alignment with DC Health, COVID-19 vaccinations, and boosters are mandated for personnel working in SOME's healthcare-designated programs, which currently include Medical, Dental, Population Health, Behavioral Health Services (BHS), Exodus House, Jordan House, Kirwan House, Keuhner Place, Leland Place, and Mary Claire House. Requests for a medical or religious exemption will be considered for a reasonable accommodation Qualifications: Required: HS/GED; 1-3 yrs experience in education or social services; experience providing education/tutoring services to children. CPR/First-Aid, CPR for Infants Knowledge Skills & Abilities: Action-oriented Creativity Social media savvy Patience in working with children Ability to communicate with a diverse group of parents and children Ability to work independently Ability to set professional boundaries Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Expected Contributions: Youth Programming Lead youth through SOME Place for Kids activities in after-school programs (approx. ages 5-13) Collaborate with Youth Services Coordinator and staff to develop and implement programs Assist in developing communications to promote programs Communicate with students and parents to collect report cards, collect permission slips, etc. Purchase supplies, as needed Assist with tutoring activities for children Develop monthly activities calendar Assist with administrative issues, as needed Reports to: Program Manager Physical Demands: Open Until Filled To : Go to our career page at and click on the search icon to locate this position.
