Work includes identifying and planning for the changing needs of the organization; sharing responsibility for strategic planning with the Chief Counsel; and partnering with the Chief Counsel and his/her designee to select, train, and develop administrative staff. Work is bound by the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure; Secretary of the Senate policies and procedures; the U.S. Senate Handbook; and the Senate Ethics Manual, but requires independent judgment in setting priorities and handling assignments. QualificationsPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in an office environment and requires the use of normal safety precautions to avoid everyday risks and discomforts. Work requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and carrying items up to 25 pounds, as well as regular use of typical office equipment, software programs, and methods of communication such as a computer, email, telephone, and photocopier. Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required for performance of duties, as well as working occasional extended and unscheduled work hours. Work also requires physical presence in the office, except as otherwise required by the Office of the Secretary of the Senate.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Work requires a bachelor's degree, with a minimum of three years of experience managing employees in a legal office, department, or organization, and experience managing business operations such as human resources, office technology, office facilities, and finance. Certified Legal Manager (CLM) certification a plus.Experience supervising and developing staff.Basic knowledge of the Senate as an institution and Senate procedures and organization preferred.Demonstrated leadership skills and willingness and ability to delegate.Familiarity with general processes, systems, philosophies, structure, methods, and approaches of small- to mid-sized law firms, large law firm branch offices, or corporate legal departments.Familiarity with document management system software.
