Summary

The Remote Audio Operator (A1) at ESPN provides audio mixing and/or audio assist support for live events, studio productions, and pre-recorded material across various platforms. Responsibilities include mixing audio signals, determining microphone placement, overseeing technical aspects (consoles, equipment, signal flow), ensuring quality control using broadcast standards, troubleshooting, and collaborating with A2s. The role requires proficiency in mixing stereo and 5.1 feeds, familiarity with audio equipment, and strong problem-solving skills. Schedule flexibility is essential to accommodate event requirements. Must Have • 2+ years remote production experience (A1) • Stereo and 5.1 mixing proficiency • Audio equipment & signal flow knowledge • Troubleshooting and communication skills Good To Have • Knowledge of broadcast communications equipment • Understanding of remote production show needs Perks • Bonus • Long-term incentives • Full benefits package Job Summary: In this role, the Audio Operator I will provide audio mixing (A1) and/or audio assist (A2) support for live event, studio productions and pre-recorded material for the ESPN family of networks and distribution platforms. As an audio operator (A1), you must be proficient in mixing and monitoring all audio sources including but not limited to microphones, music, sound effects and natural sound. Responsibilities: • The A1 mixes the various audio signals during the actual production, creating the program audio for the show. • Determines where microphones are to be placed on the field of play. • Oversees all operational and technical aspects of assigned events including but not limited to audio mixing consoles, outboard equipment, audio & video routing, digital audio delivery servers, microphone & IFBs and their signal flows, mix minus, intercom devices & software, broadcast routers, etc. Measures audio signals to ensure quality control of ESPN endorsed standards on all operations using comprehensive knowledge of broadcast methods. • Problem solve and troubleshoot using effective communication to best convey issues and resolutions. • Responsible for the overall compound’s audio sources and workflow, works with the A2’s in the compound, field and booths where necessary. • Gives instructions to the A2’s and sets up the mobile unit’s communication system. Required Qualifications: • Minimum 2 years practical remote production operations experience at network level in A1 role. • Must be proficient in mixing stereo and 5.1 program feeds. • Proficient in the use and reading of audio metering devices, including a Surround Sound Analyzer, Phase meter and Loudness Meters. • Proficient knowledge of audio boards and consoles, audio signal flow concepts, intercom systems, signal conversion equipment and communication panels. • Problem solving and troubleshooting using technical acumen and strong communication tools to best convey issues and resolutions. • Schedule flexibility must be available to travel and work weekends and holidays as schedule and show needs require. Preferred Qualifications: • Demonstrate strong knowledge of broadcast communications equipment and remote production show needs. Required Education • High School Diploma Preferred Education • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent #ESPNMedia The hiring range for this remote position is $63 per hour to $103 per hour, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
