About the position The Bridge Inspection Quality Assurance Specialist position at the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is a critical role aimed at ensuring the safety and integrity of Texas's extensive bridge infrastructure. This position is based in Austin, TX, and involves working within TxDOT's Bridge Division to uphold the standards set by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for bridge inspection programs. The successful candidate will play a vital role in managing the statewide bridge inspection program, which encompasses approximately 57,000 bridges, making Texas's inventory the largest in the nation. The position requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills to guide the inspection program effectively. As a Bridge Inspection Specialist, you will be responsible for obtaining and reviewing bridge inspection data, conducting inspections, and performing quality control reviews. You will also address necessary actions related to Federal Inspection Metrics and prepare plans of action for critical findings. The role involves liaising with various divisions and districts regarding bridge matters, ensuring that TxDOT meets or exceeds FHWA's inspection metrics. The position may also require the operation of specialized bridge inspection equipment and may involve physically demanding tasks in potentially hazardous environments. Responsibilities • Assist in management of the statewide bridge inspection program , • Lead bridge inspections and quality control reviews , • Ensure TxDOT meets or exceeds FHWA's Bridge Inspection Metrics , • Prepare and report on follow-up plans of action , • Ensure accuracy of information in the NBIS database , • Act as liaison between Divisions and Districts regarding bridge inspection matters , • Provide guidance on bridge inspection matters to internal and external customers , • Train new staff and provide instruction for bridge inspection courses , • Update policy manuals and assist in contract monitoring for inspections Requirements • High school diploma or GED , • 2 years of experience in construction, bridge inspection, or related fields for Specialist II , • 4 years of experience for Specialist III , • 5 years of experience for Specialist IV , • 7 years of experience for Specialist V , • 8 years of experience for Specialist VI , • Mandatory Safety Impact Certificate , • Extensive knowledge of bridge inspection methods and procedures , • Ability to collect, sort, and compile data using applicable computer programs , • Experience in reading and interpreting construction plans and maps , • Knowledge of applicable industry safety standards and regulations Nice-to-haves • Experience with underwater inspections , • Leadership experience in a technical environment , • Familiarity with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices , • Training experience in a classroom or field environment Benefits • Wellness program , • Paid holidays , • Tuition reimbursement , • On-the-job training , • Opportunities for advancement , • Flexible schedule , • Retirement plan Apply Job!
