Staff Accountant II IT Fixed Assets (100% Virtual Remote)

About the position The Staff Accountant II IT Fixed Assets is a critical role within US Foods, responsible for the accurate recording and management of software and hardware fixed assets. This position entails tracking newly-acquired assets, monitoring existing fixed assets, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls. The Staff Accountant will collaborate closely with various corporate office functions and divisional accounting, analysis, and tax activities to deliver timely and precise finance and accounting services. The role requires the compilation, posting, and review of month-end journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring that all financial records are maintained accurately and efficiently. In this position, the accountant will review complex IT-capital requests and supporting documentation to ensure proper accounting treatment in alignment with the company's Property, Plant, and Equipment (PPE) Policy. The role also involves monitoring Construction in Process (CIP) and working with field personnel to ensure timely in-service dates. The Staff Accountant will create IT assets with accurate allocations and classifications, maintain fixed asset records, and prepare month-end journal entries while conducting accounting reconciliation activities. Additionally, the accountant will respond to moderately complex inquiries, conduct periodic fixed asset reviews, and provide audit support as needed. This position is fully remote, allowing the employee to work from anywhere in the U.S., except Hawaii or U.S. territories. Responsibilities • Review complex IT-capital requests and supporting documentation for proper US GAAP accounting treatment that aligns with the Company's PPE Policy , • Review GL account and project coding on IT related capital expense invoices prior to management approval , • Monitor and review Construction in Process (CIP) and work closely with field personnel to ensure timely in-service dates , • Monitor and review IT expense accounts related to hardware and software projects including consulting, internal labor, and software as a service (SAAS) , • Create IT assets using accurate allocations and asset classifications and proper useful lives , • Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and forms for recording fixed assets , • Maintain IT fixed asset records including additions, retirements, transfers and book and tax depreciation for multiple business units , • Review system generated depreciation form PeopleSoft Asset Management for reasonableness and resolve any discrepancies , • Prepare month-end journal entries and complete general ledger account analysis , • Complete accounting reconciliation activities including reconciling the balance in the fixed asset and Construction in Process subsidiary ledger to the summary-level account in the general ledger , • Respond to moderately complex questions within existing policies and procedures exercising some independent judgment , • Conduct periodic fixed asset reviews and impairment inquiries for capital assets , • Compile and provide audit support as requested by internal and external auditors , • Assist with projects, research, and system related tasks as assigned , • Provide functional advice and training to less-experienced Staff Accountants , • Other duties as assigned by manager Requirements • Must possess a minimum of 2 years of experience in Accounting, Finance, or other relevant area , • Intermediate skills using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) , • Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment , • Ability to prioritize, organize, and multi-task effectively , • Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and thoroughness , • Strong verbal and written communication skills , • Strong analytical skills , • Ability to solve problems independently, including complex issues , • Ability to manage assigned tasks with little direction , • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills , • Initiative to identify areas of improvement and take action Nice-to-haves • MA/MBA preferred , • CPA or job relevant certifications preferred , • Experience with Peoplesoft Asset Management & Project Costing preferred Benefits • Health insurance , • Pre-tax spending accounts , • Retirement benefits , • Paid time off , • Short-term and long-term disability , • Employee stock purchase plan , • Life insurance Apply Job!
