TITLE: TECHNICAL SOFTWARE ENGINEER LEAD- FINANCIAL SYSTEMS STATUS: EXEMPT REPORT TO: MANAGER-IT PROGRAMMING DEPARTMENT: IT-PROGRAMMING JOB CODE: 11472 PAY RANGE: $124,800.00 - $150,000.00 ANNUALLY General Description The Technical Software Engineer Lead assumes a pivotal role, guiding the team's technical journey in the design, development, and integration of the credit union's core financial systems. While the managerial focus lies in team leadership and process orchestration, the Technical Lead delves deep into technical architecture, strategic direction, and hands-on guidance for both legacy and emerging technologies. This role demands not only robust technical acumen but also an intrinsic ability to collaborate with diverse IT stakeholders, ensuring that technology solutions align seamlessly with business objectives. Tasks, Duties, Functions • Technical Direction: Lead the team's technical strategy, ensuring alignment with current and future business goals. • Work Assignments: Evaluate team members' skill sets and expertise to assign work effectively, ensuring optimal outcomes. • Work Sizing: Assess and estimate the scope of new projects, making certain they align with time and resource constraints. • Stakeholder Collaboration: Serve as the primary technical liaison with banking architects and other high-caliber IT roles, fostering collaboration and technological synergy. • Onboarding: Architect a robust onboarding process for new developers, introducing them to the department's systems, best practices, and processes. • Technical Escalation: Act as the first point of technical escalation within the department, ensuring timely resolution of complex challenges. • Quality Assurance & Best Practices: Ensure that all solutions uphold the highest standards of quality, performance, and security. • Continual Learning: Stay abreast of technological advances in the banking and financial sector, ensuring the team's skillsets and tools remain cutting-edge. • Develop and maintain an understanding of the pertinent regulatory requirements and risks inherent to job responsibilities, establish, and maintain control activities that mitigate those risks consistent with the Credit Union’s risk appetite, and ensure operational integrity and compliance with applicable regulations. PHYSICAL SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXERTION UTILIZED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THESE TASK: • Exceptional technical aptitude combined with strategic vision. • Strong communication skills, with an ability to articulate complex technical ideas to a diverse audience. • Solution-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving. • Ability to foster collaboration within and outside the team. • Proficiency with contemporary software, architectural patterns, and digital communication tools Organizational Contacts & Relationships • INTERNAL: Closely collaborate with all levels of IT staff, departmental managers, and technology leadership. • EXTERNAL: Engage with technology vendors, banking architects, and peers in the financial technology sector. Qualifications • EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is strongly preferred. However, substantial work experience, especially in the financial or banking technology sector, can be considered in lieu of a degree. • EXPERIENCE: Minimum of ten years' experience in the design, development, and management of financial systems or similar high-transaction, mission-critical applications in a regulated environment is essential. Prior leadership or mentorship roles are a plus. • KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS: Proficiency in modern and legacy banking systems, database design/administration, and Object-Oriented Programming. A deep understanding of software development life cycles, agile methodologies, and workload balancing is crucial. Strong emphasis on quality assurance, documentation, and architectural integrity is a must. Physical Requirements • Prolonged sitting throughout the workday with occasional mobility required. • Corrected vision within the normal range. • Hearing within normal range. A device to enhance hearing will be provided if needed. • Occasional movements throughout the department daily to interact with staff, accomplish tasks, etc. • Moderate travel (3-4 times annually) locally, statewide, and throughout the United States to attend seminars and vendor group meetings. Overnight travel and evening schedules included. • Prolonged operation of a personal computer, which includes typing, operating a mouse and reading information on the monitor. • Carry and respond to smartphone 24/7 and ensure that appropriate team members are available and cross-trained for escalation support activities.
