Job Title: Senior Accountant Job DescriptionThe Senior Accountant will prepare and post journal entries related to inventory, sales activity, purchase discounts, and accruals. The role involves owning account reconciliations, investigating variances, analyzing financial data, and supporting month-end close activities. The candidate will work across multiple Oracle subsystems to gather, validate, and record financial data, assist in tying out data across systems, research and resolve accounting issues, and take ownership of complex accounting items requiring deeper analysis and judgment.

Responsibilities

Prepare and post journal entries related to inventory, sales activity, purchase discounts, and accruals. Own account reconciliations and investigate variances between current and prior periods. Analyze financial data to identify unusual trends or discrepancies and proactively raise issues. Support month-end close activities, including potential weekend work during close cycles. Work across multiple Oracle subsystems to gather, validate, and record financial data. Assist in tying out data across systems to ensure accuracy and completeness of reporting. Research and resolve accounting issues, including identifying correct data sources and reports. Take ownership of complex accounting items that require deeper analysis and judgment. Provide support on areas where documentation or prior knowledge has been lost, rebuilding processes as needed. Partner with internal teams to gather information, validate transactions, and improve reporting accuracy. Help improve efficiency by asking questions, identifying gaps, and streamlining processes. Utilize Excel heavily (lookups, data analysis, large datasets) to support reporting and reconciliations. Assist in training or guiding more junior team members on accounting-related tasks and processes. Support both natural and small business units with day-to-day accounting activities. Essential Skills5+ years of true Senior GL accounting/reconciliation experience. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and Finance. Intermediate to advanced Excel skills. Additional Skills & QualificationsPublic/CPA certification preferred. Experience in the retail industry. 2+ years of inventory accounting and accrual accounting. Work EnvironmentThis position is 100% remote, with a preference for candidates in Central or East coast time zones. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Eden Prairie, MN. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $53.00 - $63.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
