[Remote] Analyst - Operational Forecasting

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is Australia’s independent energy system and market operator, focused on ensuring safe, reliable, and affordable energy while enabling the energy transition. The Analyst - Operational Forecasting role involves managing forecasting models for electricity demand and renewable energy generation, engaging with stakeholders, and supporting real-time control room operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage operational forecasting models for electricity demand, rooftop PV, grid-scale solar farms and wind farms, including the development of forecast models and daily forecast checks
  • Work closely with AEMO’s weather providers and control rooms to translate weather risks into system impacts and ensure operators have the information they need
  • Lead or support work in upgrading our forecasting models to improve model performance
  • Contribute energy and weather information and insights into operational advisories, power system incident reviews and market reports to support secure and reliable power system operations
  • Support upgrades of forecasting applications, reform deliveries and digital enhancements to improve the performance and reliability of forecasting systems and processes

Skills

  • Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, mathematics, meteorology or a related statistical discipline
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and visualisation techniques such as PowerBI, Databricks, SQL, Excel, R, and Python
  • Experience preparing high-quality reports and presentations to communicate technical information to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in the energy sector or similar industry is desirable, but not essential, preferably in an operations, forecasting, or analytical role
  • Experience in statistical modelling and model improvement will be highly regarded
