Remote role Full-time Open position

Welcome to arenaflex – Pioneering the Future of Health Data

At arenaflex, we are on a mission to transform the way the world understands health outcomes. By harnessing the power of real‑world evidence (RWE) and cutting‑edge analytics, we enable pharmaceutical innovators, clinicians, and policymakers to make smarter, faster decisions that improve patient lives. Our remote‑first culture, collaborative spirit, and relentless focus on scientific rigor make arenaflex the ideal place for data‑driven professionals who want to make a tangible impact on global health.

Why This Role Matters

The Part‑Time Remote Real‑World Evidence Data Scientist is a cornerstone of our Clinical Insights team. You will translate massive, heterogeneous health data sets into actionable insights that drive drug development, therapeutic positioning, and health‑economic evaluations. This is more than a data entry job – it is a strategic, research‑intensive position that sits at the intersection of data engineering, statistical analysis, and clinical science.

Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief, Clinical Information Science, you will lead sophisticated data mining, cleaning, and analytical workflows that support both internal stakeholders and external biopharma partners. Your work will influence high‑stakes decisions around unmet medical needs, treatment pathways, cost‑effectiveness, and regulatory submissions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Extract raw health data from internal databases and licensed external platforms, transforming it into normalized, analysis‑ready patient cohorts.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including Clinical Research, Epidemiology, and Business Development—to surface critical insights from real‑world data (RWD) that inform RWE studies.
  • Design, implement, and validate reproducible statistical analyses addressing core business questions such as disease prevalence, treatment patterns, and health‑economic outcomes.
  • Maintain and enrich a centralized data lake, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance with privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
  • Perform advanced data mining and statistical modeling to uncover novel trends in patient populations and therapeutic effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, visualizations, and comprehensive reports for internal leadership and external partners using BI tools.
  • Lead the evaluation of new real‑world data sources, conducting quality assessments that guide strategic investment decisions.
  • Uphold best practices in data governance, documentation, and version control to guarantee high‑quality, auditable research outputs.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of outcomes research studies, ensuring methodological rigor and alignment with regulatory standards.
  • Stay abreast of emerging analytical techniques, AI/ML advancements, and industry trends to continuously elevate the analytical capabilities of arenaflex.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience with at least one of the following programming languages: R, Python, or SQL.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute robust, reproducible statistical analyses in the context of disease epidemiology and observational health research.
  • Solid understanding of core statistical methods, including regression modeling, clustering, decision trees, machine learning, time‑series analysis, and survival analysis.
  • Experience handling large‑scale datasets from multiple sources (claims, EMR, registries, etc.) and ensuring data quality throughout the pipeline.
  • Familiarity with protected health information (PHI) handling and compliance with data privacy regulations.
  • Proficiency with at least one business intelligence or data visualization platform (e.g., Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, Tableau).

Preferred (Nice‑to‑Have) Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Deep knowledge of EMR/Health‑IT systems, disease ontologies, and coding standards such as ICD‑9/10, SNOMED CT, Read Codes.
  • Experience with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and regulatory compliance frameworks (ISO, MDD/MDR, CFR) for real‑world evidence studies.
  • Hands‑on experience with data acquisition from emerging sources (e.g., wearables, digital therapeutics, AI‑enabled platforms).
  • Background in clinical trial design, Bayesian modeling, longitudinal data analysis, or advanced predictive analytics.
  • Exposure to AI/ML pipelines, including model deployment, monitoring, and continuous learning.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Rigor: Ability to translate complex clinical questions into clear, statistically sound analyses.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong coding skills in R/Python/SQL and familiarity with data‑engineering concepts.
  • Communication: Clear articulation of findings to both technical and non‑technical audiences, including senior leadership and external partners.
  • Collaboration: Proven track record of working effectively in multidisciplinary, remote teams.
  • Problem‑Solving: Creative mindset for tackling ambiguous data challenges and developing innovative solutions.
  • Ethical Stewardship: Commitment to data privacy, security, and ethical use of patient information.

Learning & Development Opportunities

arenaflex invests heavily in the growth of its talent. As a part‑time member of our team, you will still have access to:

  • Monthly webinars on emerging RWE methodologies, AI in health, and regulatory updates.
  • Mentorship from senior scientists and data engineers who have led high‑impact studies for global biopharma clients.
  • Sponsored certifications (e.g., SAS Certified Clinical Trials Programmer, Certified Health Data Analyst).
  • Opportunities to present your work at internal symposiums and external conferences.
  • Cross‑training programs that broaden expertise in cloud data platforms, advanced machine learning, and health‑economic modeling.
