About arenaflex

arenaflex is a leading financial services institution that is redefining the way data fuels security, innovation, and customer trust. With a legacy of more than a century in banking, credit, and investment solutions, arenaflex has built a culture that blends rigorous risk management with cutting‑edge technology. Our Cyber ML/AI team sits at the heart of this transformation, using advanced analytics, machine learning, and data engineering to protect millions of consumers from evolving cyber threats. As a remote‑first employer, arenaflex empowers talent across the United States to work from anywhere while staying connected to a vibrant, collaborative community of engineers, analysts, and security experts.

Why This Role Matters

In today’s digital economy, cyber‑security incidents can erode confidence in financial institutions overnight. arenaflex’s Cyber ML/AI team is tasked with detecting anomalies, preventing fraud, and strengthening the overall security posture of the organization. As a Data Engineer on this team, you will design, build, and maintain the data pipelines that power real‑time threat detection, predictive modeling, and investigative analytics. Your work will directly influence how arenaflex safeguards consumer data, reduces risk, and delivers a seamless, secure banking experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines that ingest, cleanse, and transform data from multiple sources—including relational databases, APIs, log files, and streaming platforms—into a unified data lake for cybersecurity analytics.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, security analysts, and product owners to translate business requirements into technical specifications, ensuring data quality, lineage, and governance are maintained throughout the lifecycle.
  • Implement and maintain robust data warehouse schemas that support complex queries, machine‑learning feature extraction, and real‑time alerting across the Cyber Security domain.
  • Perform root‑cause analysis on data anomalies, identify gaps in data collection, and propose enhancements that improve detection accuracy and reduce false positives.
  • Develop and enforce data security best practices, including encryption at rest, access controls, and compliance with industry regulations such as PCI‑DSS, GDPR, and CCPA.
  • Create and maintain documentation, data dictionaries, and visualizations (PowerBI, Tableau, Splunk) that enable stakeholders to monitor data health and security metrics.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous learning by sharing knowledge on emerging data‑engineering tools, cloud platforms, and cybersecurity trends.
  • Participate in cross‑functional agile ceremonies, provide status updates, and proactively surface risks or blockers to ensure timely delivery of sprint goals.
  • Stay current with industry advancements in ML/AI, threat intelligence, and data architecture, recommending innovative solutions that keep arenaflex ahead of adversaries.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a Data Engineer, with a proven track record of building end‑to‑end data pipelines in a production environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, including libraries such as Pandas, PySpark, or Dask for data manipulation and transformation.
  • Hands‑on experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and NoSQL stores (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) as well as familiarity with SQL query optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and services such as S3, Redshift, BigQuery, or Data Lake Formation.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity concepts, data privacy regulations, and the ability to apply them within data‑engineering solutions.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, with the capacity to analyze complex data‑control scenarios and propose pragmatic, risk‑aware solutions.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to articulate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Additional 1 + year of experience in data analysis or analytics within the financial services sector.
  • Exposure to cybersecurity operations, threat hunting, or incident response environments.
  • Experience with data‑visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, or Splunk, and the ability to build dashboards that surface security KPIs.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for deploying scalable data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD practices, version control (Git), and automated testing frameworks for data engineering code.
  • Understanding of machine‑learning pipelines, feature engineering, and model deployment workflows.
  • Prior experience working in an Agile or Scrum environment, with a focus on delivering incremental value.
