[Remote] Engineering Manager - Databricks SQL Control Plane

Remote role Full-time Open position

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Databricks is a data and AI company focused on enabling data teams to solve complex problems through their infrastructure platform. The Engineering Manager will lead a team in developing a new service and architecture for their SQL Control Plane, overseeing technical discussions and team growth while managing highly available cloud services.

Responsibilities

  • Leading a team of talented software engineers to build the next-generation low-latency, multi-tenanted, cloud native data warehousing system
  • Growing the team by hiring strong engineering talent
  • Leading and participating in technical, product and design discussions relating to cloud native database systems
  • Managing and operating a highly available service in the cloud
  • Growing leaders on the team by providing coaching, mentorship and growth opportunities
  • Playing a key role in defining the product and engineering roadmap for the team
  • Partnering with other engineering and product leaders on planning, prioritization and staffing
  • Creating a culture of excellence on the team while leading with empathy

Skills

  • 5+ years experience working in, database systems, data processing or related domains
  • Experience building highly available cloud services on AWS, GCP or Azure
  • Building, growing and managing high performance teams
  • Experience defining and meeting SLOs for highly available systems
  • Ability to attract and hire engineers who meet the Databricks hiring standards
  • Comfort working cross functionality with product management and partners to build products that drive user growth
  • Experience working Rust
