[Remote] Legal Externship

Remote role Full-time Open position

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. TechTonic Justice is a nonprofit organization focused on addressing the harms caused by AI to low-income communities. They are offering a fully remote legal externship for 2L or 3L law students to develop research, writing, and advocacy skills while contributing to the organization's mission of tech justice and poverty law.

Responsibilities

  • Research and draft legal memoranda
  • Draft public education materials
  • Draft public records requests, review and analyze records
  • Review and analyze existing and proposed AI legislation and AI policies
  • Contribute to drafting and editing TTJ public comments for proposed regulations or legislation
  • Assist in responding to requests for technical assistance from ground-level advocates
  • Participate in training sessions
  • Support organizing and campaign work
  • Collaborate with technologist staff to evaluate AI and automated systems
  • Support litigation and legal advocacy

Skills

  • A passion for social justice and equity
  • Excitement about serving low-income and marginalized communities directly impacted by AI
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Comfort working independently and in a collaborative remote start-up environment
  • Knowledge of antipoverty, civil rights and/or technology justice issues is a plus
  • Advocacy experience involving racial justice, economic justice, disability justice, organized labor, or grassroots organizing is a plus
  • Candidates who live in or have working experience in Arkansas or California are particularly encouraged to apply
