Remote role Full-time Open position

UI/UX Designer Full-Time | Hybrid-Remote About Alternative Balance Alternative Balance is a professional membership organization supporting wellness, beauty, fitness, and alternative health professionals nationwide. We provide specialized insurance programs, business resources, and support to help our members protect and grow their businesses. We're a values-driven, women & family-owned company that believes excellent service comes from clarity, integrity, and people who genuinely care. Our team is collaborative, detail-oriented, and deeply invested in delivering a 5-star member experience. Job Details We are looking for a UX/UI designer to join our team and elevate our design to the next level. The person who steps into this role will work closely with the technology manager to bring our design up to the same high standards as our technology. This will entail evolving our design systems, building out a design library, and participating in our development process to ensure our easy-to-use application stays that way as the complexity of our offerings grow. This role will both shape and execute design projects, which means pitching design decisions, documenting our designs, and collaborating with developers to help achieve our technology objectives. Therefore, the ideal candidate will need to be able to communicate "why" design choices are made, evaluate existing designs, and identify areas for improvement in addition to completing design assignments. Who You Are Our technology team already has some opinions about design, and we think you'll be a good fit if you agree with or can improve on our beliefs:

  • Clean design removes more than it adds
  • Effective design guides users so they "don't need to think"
  • Design is an integral part of the development process
  • Establishing a design system makes it easier to create great designs
  • Design is iterative and strengthened by feedback

The Technical Bits: While there's not a perfect mold to fit for this role, we do expect applicants to meet our minimum requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience designing web interfaces and user flows
  • A firm grasp of design tools (e.g., Figma, Penpot, Sketch)
  • Experience conducting user interviews or surveys
  • A basic understanding of HTML and CSS, or a willingness to learn
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bonus points if you have experience within the health, beauty, and wellness industry, or have worked in insurance

Why You'll Like Working Here:

  • Supportive, friendly, and collaborative team
  • Clear expectations and well-defined processes
  • Meaningful work helping small business owners feel protected and supported
  • Opportunities to build insurance and professional service expertise

Compensation:

  • $36-$48/hr depending on experience

Schedule & Benefits:

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • 9am-5pm (with flexibility subject to operational requirements)
  • Paid sick and vacation time
  • IRA contributions
  • Profit-sharing
  • Hybrid work environment (office and remote balance)
  • Company paid lunches while in the Henniker office.
  • Supportive and friendly team, organized management and owners who reciprocate strong ethics and integrity.
