Our client is seeking a highly innovative and experienced Advanced Materials Scientist to join their Manufacturing & Production division in

Washington, D.C., US

. This role is crucial for research, development, and implementation of novel materials and manufacturing processes to enhance product performance, durability, and sustainability. You will work at the forefront of material science, driving innovation from concept to production. Responsibilities: Conduct research into new materials, including polymers, composites, metals, and ceramics, relevant to manufacturing applications. Develop and optimize material processing techniques, such as additive manufacturing, injection molding, and extrusion. Characterize material properties using advanced analytical techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, XRD, DSC, FTIR). Design and execute experiments to evaluate material performance under various conditions (mechanical, thermal, chemical). Collaborate with product development, engineering, and manufacturing teams to translate material innovations into manufacturable products. Analyze manufacturing process data to identify areas for improvement and cost reduction. Develop and implement quality control procedures for raw materials and finished goods. Stay current with scientific literature, patents, and industry trends in materials science and manufacturing. Prepare technical reports, presentations, and publications summarizing research findings. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and environmental policies in laboratory and production settings. Qualifications: Ph.D. or Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field. Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in materials research and development, with a focus on manufacturing applications. Expertise in material characterization techniques and equipment. Proven ability to develop and scale up new material formulations and processes. Strong understanding of polymer chemistry, composite materials, or metallurgy. Experience with statistical analysis and design of experiments (DOE). Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with experience presenting technical information. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
