Job title: Fitness Technician Company: Bellevue College Job description: Fitness Technician Job ID: 10945 Location: Bellevue College Full/Part Time: Regular/Temporary: Position Summary Supervised by the Wellness Center Supervisor, Open Access Fitness Technicians are responsible for monitoring access and participant use of Open Access Fitness Center during Lab Hours. Open Access Fitness Center Lab Hours are set each quarter based on Health Physical Education courses and the Wellness Center-Intramural Fitness advisory board. This position is only opened to currently enrolled BC students. Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule Pay rate: $17.50/hr. The successful candidate is expected to work 10-19 hours per week; Winter 2022 - Spring 2022 (work through Summer and into next academic year possible). This position is typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. The temporary hourly employment does not exceed 1,050 hours in any 12 consecutive month period from the original date of hire. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College. This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligiblity is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month. About the Department The BC Wellness Center works to enhance the campus climate and enrich the quality of life on campus by fostering growth within the seven dimensions of wellness through outdoor recreation and fitness opportunities for all students (Social, emotional, mental, physical, environmental, spiritual and occupational). Essential Functions

• Provide excellent support services to students, staff and faculty users of Fitness Center Open Access Lab Hours.

• Verify approved access for students, staff and faculty upon entry.

• Provide basic exercise education, safety spotting and exercise resources provided by the Health and Physical Education (HPE) department.

• Maintain and monitor facility safety and cleanliness. Daily cleaning responsibilities as part of shift duties. Wiping down equipment, refreshing cleaning supplies, spotting, opening and closing duties, and daily organization of lab equipment.

• Demonstrated effective communication skills, time management skills, an appreciation for differing viewpoints, willingness to accept responsibility, and a sincere interest in helping others.

• Demonstrated commitment to Bellevue College's mission, values, and a sensitivity and care for students and guests from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities; and the proven ability to effectively balance academic, work, and personal responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Exercise Education Experience.

• Completion of BC Personal Fitness Trainer (PFT) program.

OR

• One (1) year work experience in the exercise field; personal training or exercise/movement instruction

• Ability to complete professional certification within one (1) year of start date.

Additional Position Requirements:

• This position is 100% on-campus work, there is no remote work option available. This position is only opened to currently enrolled BC students.

• Self-motivated and ability to work independently with minimal supervision after being trained.

• Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50lbs, multiple times per shift.

At the time of hire, students must:

• Be enrolled in at least seven (7) credits at Bellevue College.

• Be in good standing with the College.

While in the position, students must:

• Be enrolled in at least seven (7) credits at Bellevue College each quarter (except summer) Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or greater

• Remain in good standing with the College as far as Student Conduct

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Student Engagement office and associated services and resources.

• Knowledge of the BC Benefits Hub services.

• Experience working with diverse populations.

• Experience working with varied populations with little to no previous exercise education.
