East Side Learning Center (ESLC), established in 2001, is an independent non-profit that strives to ?unlock each child's potential through the foundation of reading.? In 2019, ESLC adopted AARP Foundation Experience Corps Twin Cities, an intergenerational literacy tutoring program where volunteers age 50+ guide the next generation of readers. We commit to relationship-centered learning, research-based literacy practices for one-to-one tutoring, and family empowerment.
Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Site Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and managing of all aspects of the tutoring site including volunteer supervision, volunteer scheduling, data gathering and input, and fostering student growth as readers.
Responsibilities:
· Supervise, support and guide Volunteer Literacy Mentors at tutoring site.
· Organize site and materials for volunteer and student success.
· Maintain site tutor schedule and arrange subs as needed.
· Provide orientation to volunteers at tutoring site.
· Work with Program Managers on initial schedules for tutoring site.
· Support Program Managers in collecting student assessment and demographic data at your site as needed.
· Arrange teacher requested changes to the schedule when students are deleted/added.
· Administer student assessments three times a year and/or when students are added or exited from the tutoring program. Discuss student progress with Program Manager, Classroom Teachers and volunteers as needed.
· Provide student progress to Classroom Teacher at conference times.
· Help train/coach volunteers to administer SEL surveys 3 times a year.
· Coach volunteers to implement tutoring sessions with fidelity to the curriculum and using best practices for literacy success.
· Support volunteers in: Maintaining accurate timesheets and session progress notes using online platforms.
· Review Literacy Mentor tutoring session notes and follow up as needed.
· Document one formal observation and conversation with each volunteer per school year.
· Report any concerns re: students/mentors to Program Manager.
· Meet with assigned Program Manager.
· Participate/lead and provide input and support for Literacy Mentor training sessions.
· Participate in ESLC meetings as required.
· Participate in onboarding and ongoing training.
· Be present and available to Literacy Mentors according to the assigned schedule for tutoring site.
· Review Literacy Mentor session notes weekly with the intention of supplying ideas/materials to improve the tutoring experience.
· Give Literacy Mentors positive feedback about their sessions with students.
· Encourage their continued efforts on behalf of student readers.
· Support and inform Literacy Mentors at your site with ESLC information and updates.
· Monitor schools' and sites' calendars, schedules and safety procedures.
