General Counsel (Bilingual – English/Spanish Preferred)
The General Counsel will serve as the company’s lead legal advisor, overseeing all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters across VetClaims.ai. This role partners closely with executive leadership to manage risk, ensure compliance with laws such as HIPAA and CCPA, and support the company’s growth in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment. The ideal candidate brings experience in healthcare or tech, strong business judgment, and the ability to build and scale legal and compliance functions in a remote, multi-state organization.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary legal advisor to executive leadership, including the CEO and Chief Legal Officer
- Oversee all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters across the organization
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CCPA, and other applicable federal and state laws
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including vendor agreements, partnerships, and employment-related documents
- Develop and maintain internal policies related to data privacy, security, and corporate governance
- Advise on multi-state employment law, HR policies, and risk mitigation strategies
- Manage and coordinate with outside counsel on litigation, disputes, and specialized legal matters
- Lead internal investigations and ensure proper documentation and compliance practices
- Partner with HR, Security, and Operations teams to implement compliance training and programs
- Support product and technology teams on legal considerations related to AI, data usage, and platform development
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active bar license (Texas preferred)
- 5+ years of legal experience, with in-house experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA, CCPA, and data privacy regulations
- Experience working in healthcare, health tech, or SaaS environments
- Proven experience supporting remote, multi-state organizations
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

- Familiarity with AI, automation, or data-driven platforms
