Digital Engineering Technician Apprentice

Remote role Full-time Open position

We are seeking a Digital Engineering Technician Apprentice to join the Technical Assurance & Design Management Team.

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Digital Engineering Technician Apprentice to join our Technical Assurance & Design Management Team on the Houses of Parliament Restoration & Renewal (R&R) Programme — The largest and most complex renovation of a UNESCO World Heritage building ever undertaken. This once‑in‑a‑lifetime project will preserve the Palace of Westminster for future generations and offers a unique and exciting environment in which to begin a career in digital construction.

You will work as part of the Digital Design Team to gain an in-depth understanding of BIM principles, standards and information requirements as well as learning how to use a range of 3D and 2D modelling and data management software tools and platforms (e.g. Revit, AutoCAD, ACC). This will allow you to successfully contribute to tasks such as:

  • The review and coordination of building information from survey contractors and design partners
  • The integration of building information into the BIM Environment (digital 3D models and linked databases)
  • The production of consistent digital deliverables for use across with wider project team

The apprenticeship is designed to develop your skills from the ground up. We are not seeking prior experience—just enthusiasm, curiosity, and the drive to learn. You will be supported by experienced colleagues and managed by the BIM Technical Manager with regular training and on‑the‑job learning.

Entry Requirements and Key Information

  • Please note this is an apprenticeship position, therefore applicants must not already hold a Digital Engineering qualification at or above a Level 3 Apprenticeship. More information on the apprenticeship course can be found here
  • This is a fixed-term role lasting for 4 years
  • If you are under 19 and do not have a Grade C/4 in English and Maths you will need to complete a functional skill test as part of the course
  • Day-release attendance at the training provider is essential (travel expense covered)
  • Salary is in line with London Living Wage + benefits package
  • We encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experience

Supporting Statement

If you feel that this opportunity is for you, please submit a supporting statement on:

Why is the idea of joining the R&R Programme as a Digital Engineering Technician important to you?’ (maximum of 500 words)

In your answer you should include thoughts on the following:

  • Why would you like to work for the R&R programme?
  • Why does the idea of working in BIM/Digital Engineering interest you?
  • What strengths, interests, or experiences (in school, work, or hobbies) do you have that will help you succeed in this role?
  • Tell us about a time you have learned new skills, solved difficult problems and/or worked successfully with others
  • What skills and knowledge are you most excited to acquire and/or develop?

We know that, as an apprentice, you may not yet have a detailed CV, so our application includes a few short questions to help us learn more about you. You’re welcome to use tools such as AI to support spelling, structure, or clarity, but we’re most interested in hearing your own thoughts and experiences. We want to understand what excites you about this role and get a genuine sense of who you are, so please answer in your own words rather than copying AI responses.
