Spacecraft Mechanical Production Engineer

They are seeking a Spacecraft Mechanical Production Engineer to develop, implement, and optimize production processes for mechanical structures and mechanisms for multiple vehicle types, collaborating with engineers and technicians to bring designs to reality.

Responsibilities

  • Support the setup and scaling of spacecraft mechanical manufacturing capabilities for developmental programs and rate production
  • Develop work instructions for the assembly, integration, and test of structural subsystems, mechanisms, deployables, and related ground support equipment and tooling
  • Directly support production on the floor to ensure efficient build of mechanical hardware, addressing bottlenecks and troubleshooting technical issues as needed
  • Generate and resolve non-compliance reports for mechanical hardware, conducting root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions
  • Oversee calibration and certification of mechanical ground support equipment including fixtures, lifting devices, and test equipment
  • Drive process improvements and corrective actions to increase the efficiency and reliability of mechanical hardware manufacturing
  • Collaborate with design engineering to provide manufacturability feedback and contribute to technical documentation, including drawings, process flows, and test specifications

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or related technical discipline
  • Years of relevant experience in mechanical or manufacturing engineering for aerospace, defense, or high-reliability systems in line with engineering level
  • Experience with PLM, MES, configuration and data management controls and systems
  • Experience working to AS9100 process and standards
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical component fabrication, assembly, and testing including precision fastening, bonding, and surface treatment processes
  • Work Location—Successful candidates will be located near Long Beach, CA. While we observe a hybrid work environment, some work must be done on site
  • Work environment—the work environment; temperature, noise level, inside or outside, or other factors that will affect the person's working conditions while performing the job
  • Physical demands—the physical demands of the job, including bending, sitting, lifting and driving
  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State
  • Experience in the design, manufacturing, and testing of spacecraft mechanical components (e.g., structures, panels, mechanisms, deployables, separation systems)
  • Direct experience in spacecraft or launch vehicle structural integration, with an emphasis on precision alignment and interface control
  • Background in spacecraft mechanical or structural environmental and qualification testing (vibration, acoustic, thermal)
  • Experience building and producing classified hardware in SCIF's or SAP facilities
