What you will be doing
With supervisory support, this role ensures Local Education Agencies (LEAs) receive appropriate state and federal funding while overseeing the review and evaluation of special education services for students with disabilities in Alaska in compliance with applicable standards. The position requires interpreting state and federal laws and regulations and recommendations on special education policies and procedures. It also includes monitoring school districts to ensure adherence to special education requirements. Additionally, the role provides technical assistance and training to LEAs on fiscal and regulatory requirements and program development. The individual prepares required reports for submission to the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and serves in a full-time, year-round capacity.Our organization, mission, and culture

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
- Managing Performance: Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of the planning, teaching and evaluating the assigned educational subject matter area or specialized field of education; curricula development techniques; basic educational budgeting.
- Leadership: Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the work; speak and write clearly and effectively; learn operating policies and procedures;
- Project Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance
- Compliance: Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with Federal laws, regulations, and guidance.
- Education and Training: Knowledge of teaching, training, research, making presentations, lecturing, testing, and other instructional methods.
Special Notice
- Requires travel, sometimes in small aircraft. Overnight stays may be required during travel but not over five days.
- A valid Driver's License is desired at the time of appointment.
Position Duties
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and four years of professional experience in education, one year of which was as a staff advisor/specialist, administrator, supervisor or consultant in planning, developing and maintaining standards and evaluating educational and vocational curricula or educational programs in a specialized field. Substitution: Appropriate graduate study may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the non-specialized experience to a maximum of two years. Special Note: Due to the duties assigned to a majority of these positions, applicants may be required to possess an Alaska Teacher Certificate at the time of employment and be required to maintain certification as a condition of employment. Specific endorsements may also be required. Documentation is included in the file of affected positions. Individual positions in this class may require expertise in a particular educational specialty. Recruitment and selection will be on the basis of these requirements.
