The work directly supports provider lifecycle data that impacts compliance, reimbursement accuracy, and operational efficiency nationwide. From a technical standpoint, the role provides deep exposure to distributed systems, event-driven architecture, large-scale data processing, and modern cloud-native services in a production environment. Engineers have the chance to influence architecture, modernize legacy systems, and elevate engineering standards while delivering meaningful, real-world impact in healthcare. We are seeking a highly experienced Software Engineer IV to join our Provider Lifecycle Solutions (PLS) Development team. This is a senior-level technical role focused on architecting, building, and operating data-intensive backend systems that power mission-critical healthcare products. Our team develops and maintains platforms that healthcare partners rely on for accurate, compliant, and timely provider lifecycle data. This role is backend-first and deeply technical, with strong emphasis on distributed systems, cloud-native services, and large-scale data processing pipelines. While backend expertise is primary, the ability to contribute across the full stack when needed is valued. You will play a key role in shaping architectural direction, setting engineering standards, mentoring developers, and partnering closely with product and engineering leadership to deliver resilient, high-quality solutions at scale. What You'll Do • Design and develop scalable, cloud-native backend services and APIs supporting core PLS workflows • Build and evolve event-driven architectures and distributed systems • Implement and optimize batch and streaming data pipelines using Spark, Scala, and Python • Improve system performance, stability, and data quality through observability and operational excellence practices • Mature prototypes and proof-of-concepts into production-grade services • Modernize legacy systems into modular, maintainable, extensible architectures • Strengthen CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and infrastructure-as-code practices • Write robust unit, integration, and end-to-end tests • Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams • Mentor engineers and elevate coding standards and architectural rigor across the organization Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field • 7 years building production-grade backend services using Java and JVM-based technologies • 5 years of full-stack engineering experience (backend services, APIs, UI frameworks, integrations) • Strong hands-on experience with Scala, Python, and Apache Spark for data-intensive applications • 5 years working with AWS services (Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, API Gateway, MWAA/Airflow, CloudWatch, etc.) • Deep understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and service-to-service communication • Strong command of engineering best practices: Git workflows, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, and observability • Ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate across multidisciplinary teams • Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset Preferred Qualifications • Experience building healthcare or provider data solutions (X12, NPI, taxonomy, credentialing workflows, payer rules) • Experience with observability tooling (metrics, logging, tracing, alerting, automated runbooks) • Background in domain-driven design, data modeling, and modern cloud architecture patterns • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments using tools such as JIRA and Confluence Why This Role Matters This position plays a critical role in powering healthcare data systems that directly impact compliance, operational accuracy, and partner trust. You will influence architectural direction, contribute to modernization efforts, and help drive engineering excellence across a high-impact product portfolio.
