Position Title Adjunct Instructor PT, Dental Hygienist (Continuous Posting) Employment Category Adjunct Contract Length N/A Expected Work Schedule Variable Anticipated Days Variable Anticipated Hours Variable Anticipated Hours per Week Variable Job Description Summary An instructor in this position will conduct or assist with college courses for undergraduate students in the Dental Assisting and/or Dental Hygiene Program. This individual must possess the knowledge and skills to teach and supervise students in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings. Duties 1. Teach or assist with all levels of courses within the Dental Assisting and/or Dental Hygiene curriculum. 2. Supervise students in the classroom, lab, and/or clinical environments incorporating knowledge, expertise, and flexibility to ensure safety and student learning. 3. Develop/suggest teaching materials, activities, and handouts for each course assigned. 4. Prepare and deliver lectures and/or prepare and lead class activities or assist in lab or clinic. 5. Collaborate with departmental personnel in curriculum revisions/updates which reflect changing trends, information, and technologies and ensure compliance with the Standards of the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, the Department of Community Colleges approved standards for the curriculum and the Criteria of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. 6. Abide by policies, standards, goals, and objectives of the College and Department. 7. Participate in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation activities to improve the instructional quality of the program. 8. Practice, teach and supervise students to facilitate compliance with OSHA standards related to blood-borne pathogens. 9. Develop a mechanism to be contacted by students if additional help is required. 10. Maintain professional certification (RDH and BLS for the Healthcare Provider) and seek opportunities for professional development through study, seminars, and/or on-the-job practice. 11. Serve as a resource to the dental community and community at large. 12. The above duties are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of the job position. Licensure in Dental Hygiene; 3. Current certification in Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider. Preferred Qualifications 1. Teaching experience in Accredited DH Program.
