Associate Director, Sr. IT AI Program Manager

About the Role: Insmed is making significant investments in educating its employees and expanding its AI capabilities across the organization. We are seeking a Senior AI IT Program Manager to lead and organize Insmed’s Artificial Intelligence portfolio within the IT Program Management Office. This role is actively engaged in the day-to-day workings of a complex AI portfolio, maintaining a strong, real-time pulse on AI initiatives across functions and lifecycle stages, while execution ownership remains with delivery leaders. Reporting to the Senior Director of IT Program Management, this role focuses on portfolio orchestration and program maturity. You will provide structure, cadence, and guidance across a diverse set of AI initiatives, helping teams organize, sequence, and advance work in a consistent and disciplined way. You will partner closely with delivery managers, IT business partners, and functional teams to translate strategic direction into an executable, well-governed AI portfolio. You will coordinate portfolio-level planning, organize mid-level cross-functional forums, and prepare inputs that enable effective governance and decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate a portfolio of AI and ML initiatives all Insmed functions e.g., Research, Development, Commercial, IT, and Enabling Functions.
  • Define, champion, and operationalize the AI program governance framework, including preparing and facilitating portfolio forums, review committees, and governance meetings.
  • Partner closely with IT Business Partners to support intake, evaluation, and prioritization of new AI use cases, ensuring portfolio alignment to maximize business value.
  • Provide leadership and coordination across a matrixed environment of IT Project Managers, business partners, and functions, reinforcing program discipline, quality standards, and cross-initiative alignment.
  • Implement robust portfolio-level risk management practices, translating technical challenges and potential blockers into business-relevant risks, impact assessments, and mitigation options.
  • Oversee and coordinate third-party vendors, external consulting partners, and outsourced service providers involved in AI initiatives, ensuring accountability and alignment with program objectives.
  • Maintain portfolio-level oversight of schedules, budgets, and resource planning, with the ability to quickly assess initiative health and intervene when alignment or stability is at risk.
  • Leverage strong visual storytelling and presentation skills (expert proficiency in PowerPoint) to distill complex technical progress into clear, compelling narratives that support alignment and decision-making.
  • Provide clear, concise, and regular portfolio updates using project tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Orchestra), and develop program scorecards tracking key performance indicators such as business impact, timeline, and budget variance.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in IT Project and Program Management, with at least 5+ years managing large, complex, multi-stream programs in pharmaceutical industry.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience managing detailed project plans and leading teams in development and maintenance of planning activities.
  • In-depth working knowledge of Microsoft Project, or similar.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Powerpoint and other Office applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in managing projects in a team environment, partnering with team leads to provide good meeting management, pro-active and a self-starter.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional certification such as PMP (Project Management Professional), PgMP (Program Management Professional), or similar methodology certifications (e.g., SAFe).
  • Demonstrated experience managing Data, Analytics, or AI/Machine Learning specific programs.
