Job description:
- Hold a current Illinois Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) endorsed as a Paraprofessional Educator;
- Two years (or 60 semester hours) of post-secondary study preferred;
- Background in Special Education preferred;
- Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred.
- Maintain professional relationship with staff and students.
- Supervise students in non-instruction activities. Reinforce learning in small groups.
- Conduct teacher-prepared lessons with small groups.
- Assist in educational demonstration.
- Establish positive working relationship with students.
- Carry out instructional activities as planned by the teacher.
- Read materials and tests to students, as needed.
- Assist students with make-up work, when necessary.
- Implement behavior management plan (observe, record, chart strategies using the same emphasis and techniques as the teacher).
- Assist teacher with crises and behavior management.
- Provide feedback and reinforcement to students on their performance consistent with teacher's behavior management plan.
- Assist the teacher in classroom behavior management as designated by the teacher.
- Carry out teacher's plans for the student.
- Under the direction of the supervisory teacher, become aware of each student's unique learning style.
- Under the direction of the supervisory teacher, become familiar with each student's physical and psychological report and social history.
- Manage class material inventory.
- Set up and store instructional materials.
- Create/prepare instructional materials.
- Maintain audio-visual equipment.
- Full-time, ten-month work year (180 days of school including student attendance days, staff institutes, and parent/teacher conference days)
- Starting wage is $17.50-$19.25/hour based on education and verified experience
- 55-minute paid lunch break (45 minutes on Wednesdays)
