Job title: Volunteer Adult Literacy Tutor Company: County of San Luis Obispo Job description: Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity to make a positive impact on someone's life? San Luis Obispo County Public Libraries is looking for dedicated and compassionate individuals to join TLC: The Literacy Connection team to provide hope and practical help to residents who struggle daily because of limited literacy skills. As a volunteer tutor with TLC, you will be trained to work with English-speaking adults and play a crucial role in empowering learners improve their literacy skills and achieve their desired goals. Teaching experience welcome but not necessary; only a desire to help and the ability to commit to this opportunity are required. Must be 18 or older to apply. Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions to improve learner's reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
• Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment to help learners build confidence in their literacy skills.
• Regularly assess learners' progress and provide feedback to help them track their achievements.

Qualifications:

• Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate and inspire adult learners in their literacy journey.
• Cultural sensitivity and understanding of the unique challenges faced by adult learners from diverse backgrounds.
• Reliability and commitment to volunteering.
• Willingness to undergo a background check and any necessary training provided by TLC.
