Montessori Teacher Residency: Elementary Course Coordinator & InstructorAbout NCMPS and the Montessori Teacher Residency The National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector (NCMPS) is a national nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to high-quality, equitable, and sustainable public Montessori programs. NCMPS supports educators, schools, districts, and charter networks through implementation assistance, teacher preparation, coaching, professional development, and resource development. The National Center’s Montessori Teacher Residency (NCMTR) is a practice-based, public-school–focused teacher preparation program. Residents are embedded in schools, supported by experienced mentors, and prepared to thrive in the unique context of public Montessori education. Job Description and Requirements NCMPS seeks a highly experienced Montessori professional to serve as Elementary Course Coordinator and Instructor for the Elementary Montessori Teacher Residency. This is a full-time, national role that combines academic coordination, instructional leadership, and direct teaching within a highly collaborative, team-based residency model. The NCMTR typically has several MTR Courses running at once, in different locations, at different levels, and at different stages of their two- or three-year cycle. The Elementary Course Coordinator and Instructor reports to the NCMTR Program Director and operates across Courses, working closely with the NMCTR Practicum Coordinator, fellow instructors, curriculum specialists, and school-based partners to ensure a coherent, high-fidelity training experience for Residents across multiple sites. The person in this role also delivers substantial Elementary theory and practice instruction across Courses. Candidates must be available for travel approximately 5 - 7 days per month during the academic year and for 5 - 7 weeks during the summer. Collaborative Course Coordination:

  • Collaborate with NCMTR Program Directors and the national Instructor team to coordinate Elementary academic content, schedules, and delivery in alignment with MACTE requirements
  • Maintain, revise, and co-develop NCMTR Elementary albums, syllabi, videos, slide decks, and instructional tools
  • Partner with the NCMPS team to ensure alignment with NCMPS tools, public school standards, and assessment expectations
  • Coordinate across sites to support summer intensives, seminars, and distance learning, providing orientation and ongoing academic support to Residents, Instructors, and Course Assistants
  • Maintain and audit Resident academic records and collaborate with Program Directors on diploma and certificate recommendations
  • Co-lead professional learning for school-based Residency Coaches
  • Participate in shared field supervision, evaluations, and assessments of Residents
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and preparation of Elementary Instructors
  • Other duties as assigned

Instruction, Supervision, & Team Learning:

  • Instruct Elementary (ages 6–12) Residents during summer intensives and academic-year seminars including supervision of hands on lesson practice during training
  • Deliver Montessori theory and practice using NCMPS materials and adult learning principles
  • Send material and lesson lists to local team before each academic session
  • Supervise lesson practice and guide Resident growth through modeling, coaching, and feedback
  • Work collaboratively with Residents and colleagues to support understanding of equity, anti-racism, and public-school contexts

Monitor Resident progress and support progression through training by:

  • conducting mock oral exams during training sessions
  • marking assignments
  • overseeing formative album checks
  • overseeing marking of completed albums and rationales
  • Contribute to continuous program improvement through reflection and shared problem-solving
  • Participate in regular team meetings, faculty workshops, and a national community of practice

Qualifications: Required

  • MACTE-recognized Montessori credential for Elementary I-II (Ages 6-12)
  • Minimum five years of Montessori classroom experience
  • Experience in public Montessori settings (district, magnet, or charter)
  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively with diverse adult learners
  • Strong organizational, communication, and facilitation skills
  • Commitment to equity, reflective practice, and continuous learning
  • Willingness and ability to travel for national programming

Preferred

  • Experience leading and/or instructing in MACTE-accredited teacher education programs
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Position Details:

  • Status: Full-time (1.0 FTE)
  • Location: Remote, with nationwide travel for in-person instruction
  • Travel: Approximately 25% annually, including extended summer intensives
  • Start Date: As soon as possible
