Information Analyst II - Security Compliance Analyst

The Division of Technology Services (DTS) is looking for a hard-working, motivated, and innovative Security Operations Information Analyst interested in working in a fast-paced environment. This position will work on the Security Operations team that has responsibility for technical components of Information Security projects for the Department of Workforce Services (DWS) as well as coordination of DTS security efforts. The chosen candidate in this position will support the Department of Workforce Services in Federal and State security audits, as well as oversee information security related projects and assignments. This is a highly technical, project-driven, and professional level position. The candidate will ensure that all DTS efforts on these projects are coordinated and that project deliverables are completed professionally, on time and within scope constraints and reach a successful conclusion. This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office and telework days (two days in office required at the Department of Workforce Services, 140 E 300 S, Olene Walker Building, Salt Lake City, UT). Please note, a position's eligibility for telework is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time. This job may be filled at either of the levels listed below. (Rate as listed or in accordance with DHRM Rules for current state employees.)

  • Information Analyst II, $24.60 - $33.50 per hour
  • Information Analyst I, $19.79 - $33.50 per hour

The State's environment is a highly optimized blend of systems responsible for collecting, processing, and distributing millions of data elements every day. Preference may be given to candidates with demonstrated working knowledge of project management concepts and information security standards. Employees typically perform activities which may include:

  • Supporting the Department of Workforce Services.
  • Project manage security related audits and activities.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with federal and state partner requirements.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining an overall information security program.
  • Assisting in information gathering and coordinating with multiple business and technical partners in order to respond to information security related audits.
  • Working with business, technical partners, state and federal auditors to implement security requirements per federal and state recommendations.
  • Drafting information security policy, procedures and resources based on nationally recognized information security standards.
  • Helping stakeholders identify security needs and best practices in application development and department practices.
  • Tracking and coordinating with project partners to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Making recommendations to management for improving and/or maintaining effective information security support for the organization.
  • Assist with incident response measures.

Principle Duties Employees at this level will:

  • Perform the responsibilities of an Information Security Compliance and Risk Analyst within NIST 800-53.
  • Project manage multiple security related audits and activities.
  • Review and understand federal and state information security standards, best practices, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Assist with implementing these information security standards, best practices, regulations, policies and procedures into all aspects of the department.
  • Review systems and practices to ensure compliance with information security procedures, policies, regulations and standards.
  • Develop information security resources to be utilized by the department.
  • Take on assignments with little to no guidance or prior knowledge.
  • Facilitate work groups and project meetings.
  • Plan and manage projects and/or programs.
  • Write or present project plans, recommendations and/or findings.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to be a self-starter.
  • Project management skills.
  • Knowledge of NIST 800-53, IRS Pub 1075, SSA SRTM, or other information security compliance standards.
  • Experience participating in audit or program review activities.
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and apply critical thinking skills to ensure all facets of the project are met.
  • Documentation skills to capture project decisions and deliverables.
  • The skills to research unknown concepts and terms and create resource documents or assist in teaching/guiding others.
  • An interest in information gathering and fact finding for projects.
  • The desire to learn nationally recognized security standards and be involved in the information security community.
  • Develop working relationships with new business and technology partners.
  • The ability to work independently and work well with others in a group setting.
  • Current or previous experience working for the State of Utah.
  • Employment contingent on passing a drug screening and a background check.
  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
