Pepperdine-Edify Educational Research Scholars /PEERS/ Internship
The Pepperdine-Edify Educational Research Scholars (PEERS) is a research internship program for GSEP doctoral students to engage with Edify to improve educational outcomes for students in low-fee schools in Africa and Latin America. Edify ( Edify is a global Christ-centered nonprofit that serves low-fee schools throughout Africa and Latin America. Currently, Edify works with over 40,000 schools and is operational in 16 countries. Edify’s vision is to see flourishing, godly nations as a result of children receiving a quality, Christ-centered education in their own communities. Edify focuses on three primary areas – microfinance, training, and education technology – to support local school proprietors in improving and expanding sustainable, Christ-centered education in their communities. Research Internship Edify analyzes and reports on OneTest literacy data ( collected at their partner schools in Africa and Latin America. As the data set grows and Edify’s analysis needs expand, a team of graduate students are needed to support the data analysis and reporting process. Specific tasks include:
- Statistical analysis
- Analysis at the school-, country-, and global-levels to understand patterns and relationships present in the OneTest reading variables (e.g., letter sounds, vocabulary, comprehension)
- Strategy and recommendations
- Based on the results of the analysis, providing relevant, evidence-based recommendations for improving literacy outcomes in low-fee schools
- Support the preparation of local guidebooks based on results of OneTest
- Contextually-relevant capacity building
- Providing training and capacity building, as requested, to Edify staff who coach school leaders and teachers in their use of evidence-based literacy strategies Internship Details
- Compensation: This is an unpaid research internship
- Format: Fully remote. All work will be conducted online, with regular virtual meetings
- Cohort Size: 4 - 5 interns will be selected
- Time Commitment: Minimum of 5 hours per week, including participation in biweekly team meetings and monthly review meetings with Edify’s project lead Expected Benefits to Participating Graduate Students

- Completion of Edify’s Safeguarding Course (approx. 1 hour)
- Signing of non-disclosure agreement related to use of school data (e.g., data not to be shared with other parties, data only to be used for approved research purposes)
- Participation in the Intern Orientation (October 2025) and Research Showcase (March 2026) Internship Timeline

- GSEP doctoral students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:
- The applicant should (a) have completed or be currently enrolled in a course on quantitative analysis [EDD/EGLC 734]; OR (b) have previous professional experience in conducting quantitative analysis.
- The applicant should be available to dedicate a minimum of 5 hours per week to internship-related tasks
- The applicant should demonstrate a clear interest in global education issues and share Edify’s mission to support schools in developing countries to provide sustainable, Christ-centered education in their communities. Application Instructions
