Manager, Engineering - Content Discovery

Remote role Full-time Open position

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next. The Content Systems team has a vision of being the comprehensive gateway for all metadata powering the Netflix member experience. The Content Systems team builds seamless, intelligent systems that support all content types, enabling scalable integration and optimized delivery of content data to Netflix’s products. We ensure that content is accurately represented, intelligently modeled, and efficiently surfaced to maximize discoverability, personalization, and innovation across platforms. The Content Discovery team in Content Systems is responsible for identifying the precise sub-set of the vast and diverse Netflix Catalog that should be discoverable by each Netflix Member. We own and build foundational systems and processes to ensure that our members have the most updated and precise representation of the Netflix Catalog. We are seeking an engineering leader who can balance the technical leadership required to build and operate very high throughput, low latency mission critical systems and build the strategic roadmap so we can build for tomorrow's needs today. We are looking for someone who is technically proficient and can cultivate a collaborative and inclusive environment, mentoring a diverse team of engineers, including experienced engineers and newcomers. Above all, this leader should embody Netflix's core values, promoting creativity, curiosity, excellence, and selflessness. In this role, you will:

  • Lead a team of strong engineers building high-scale, fault tolerant distributed systems.
  • Drive architecture, design, and execution of product infrastructure systems.
  • Develop a strategic roadmap focused on incremental delivery and high business impact.
  • Define success metrics, align migration goals, and drive platform adoption.
  • Communicate progress effectively to stakeholders, customers, and senior leadership.
  • Balance platform evolution by maintaining existing systems while prioritizing next-gen development.
  • Hire, mentor, and grow a diverse, high-performing team, fostering an inclusive team culture.

What we are looking for in you:

  • An engineering leader with 3 - 5 years of experience leading backend distributed systems teams.
  • Strong technical acumen and ability to act as a technical advisor to the team.
  • Experience leading teams responsible for building high-traffic distributed systems
  • Experience building product platforms with a direct impact on the customer experience.
  • A passion for improving consumer experiences through strong partnerships with product leaders, ability to influence product direction and roadmaps.
  • A track record of hiring diverse, highly talented engineers and growing successful, highly impactful teams.
  • Excellence in communicating context with the team, stakeholders, partners, and leadership. Ability to drive the team’s roadmap by connecting the dots between your team’s work and business needs, managing expectations, and navigating competing priorities.
  • A leadership style that prioritizes giving and receiving feedback, fostering new ideas, and empowering others without micromanagement.
  • A BS in Computer Science/Engineering or a related discipline.
