Senior Instructional Designer, Part-Time or Full-Time Softek Services, Inc. is a training and consulting firm with over 35 years of experience providing tailored learning solutions and IT services. As a Senior Instructional Designer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing performance-based training programs in support of federal clients across multi-year engagements. This role focuses primarily on the development and modernization of performance-based, instructor-led training (ILT), with additional work supporting web-based and blended learning solutions. You will lead end-to-end instructional design efforts, applying adult learning principles and performance-based methodologies to analyze job roles and tasks, design effective training strategies, and develop high-quality instructional products that are practical, learner-centered, and operationally relevant. The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of relevant instructional design experience, strong analytical and technical writing skills, and the ability to translate complex operational requirements into engaging, scenario-driven training that improves real-world performance. Job Type: W2 Employee (Part-Time or Full-Time) or 1099 Contract Job Location: Primarily remote work with travel 4 to 6 times per year (for one week at a time) to meet with clients for focus groups and pilot course deliveries. Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end instructional design efforts using adult learning and performance-based methodologies, from front-end analysis through design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Conduct performance and needs analyses to identify gaps, define learning and performance objectives, and recommend instructional strategies and solutions.
- Collaborate with federal clients, stakeholders, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to shape content and ensure training aligns with operational requirements and standards.
- Develop detailed design documents and storyboards, ensuring alignment with performance standards and learning objectives.
- Translate complex technical and operational content into clear, accurate, and instructionally sound learning materials.
- Develop learner-centered, instructor-led training (ILT) and blended learning solutions, including lesson plans, performance-based classroom activities, participant and instructor guides, job aids, and other supporting materials.
- Design and oversee the development of visual and multimedia elements (e.g., graphics, diagrams, infographics, slides, and videos) to enhance learning and instructional effectiveness.
- Create realistic, scenario-based learning experiences (e.g., simulations, role plays, case studies, exercises, drills) that require critical thinking and support real-world job performance.
- Design assessments and performance-based evaluation strategies to measure learning outcomes and on-the-job performance.
- Synthesize post-course evaluation data to refine training materials.
- Proofread and edit instructional materials for accuracy and clarity.
- Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, design approaches, sample materials, and technical solutions as needed.
Qualifications
- Degree in Instructional Design, Education, Curriculum Design, Organizational Development, Adult Learning, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 10+ years of instructional design experience spanning the full development lifecycle, from front-end analysis through design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Understanding of adult education principles and instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, Bloom’s s Taxonomy, Gagne’s Nine Events of Instruction).
- Strong analytical, technical writing, editing, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to work with subject matter experts (SMEs), clients, and other stakeholders and integrate feedback effectively into training materials.
- Experience with e-learning authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate or Articulate Storyline.
- Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and work as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with 508-compliant training.
- Previous work experience working with federal agencies and/or consulting.
- Experience facilitating SME meetings and design workshops, leading client meetings, and participating in other client-facing activities.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. government Public Trust Security Clearance.
