Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Program

We're proud to offer an "earn while you learn" pharmacy technician training program, recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Department of Labor. This apprenticeship program provides an entry point to a career in healthcare by guiding you in becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) licensed Pharmacy Technician. Our program is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the pharmacy care industry.

Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Technician at arenaflex, you'll be responsible for:

  • Assisting pharmacists in the exercise of pharmacy, under direct supervision, in accordance with national and federal regulations
  • Using pharmacy systems to retrieve patient and drug information and process prescriptions
  • Modeling and providing a unique and delightful customer experience
  • Engaging customers and patients by greeting them and providing assistance with services and products
  • Resolving customer issues and answering inquiries to ensure a superior customer experience
  • Developing strong relationships with our most valuable customers
  • Performing duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, personnel Pharmacist, and store supervisor, including using pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug records, filling prescriptions, and verifying medication accuracy
  • Assisting pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining work flow
  • Reporting prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhering to company policies and procedures regarding pharmacy errors and the quality improvement program
  • Adhering to the Walgreen Co. Policy regarding accurate dispensing throughout all applicable prescription dispensing activities
  • Registering all related sales on assigned cash register, collecting and handling coins as required
  • Taking customers to the OTC aisle to assist in finding merchandise
  • Handling telephone calls that don't require the personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians
  • Processing (correcting and resubmitting) claims for third-party prescription services in a timely and efficient manner, and performing other clerical responsibilities as assigned by the store manager
  • Assisting and supporting the Pharmacy department on stock management activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of prescription drugs
  • Maintaining knowledge of company asset safety procedures, and documenting claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order mistakes, or broken goods related to Rx capsules
  • Assisting pharmacists in administering medical services, including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients and other medical services as required
  • Assisting the Pharmacy Supervisor and personnel Pharmacist in developing and maintaining strong relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers, through clinical provider detailing and outreach to healthcare agencies, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums for reinforcing growth opportunities
  • Assisting with outdoor and indoor maintenance by ensuring the pharmacy department is stocked with sufficient supplies, clean, neat, and orderly in appearance and condition

Education and Personal Development

As a Pharmacy Technician at arenaflex, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Earn and maintain PTCB certification through our unique training program and/or state required certification/registration
  • Attend training and complete PPLs as required by your manager and acquire continuing education credits
  • Maintain expertise and knowledge in healthcare and pharmacy, including the latest information and developments
  • Qualify for 8 (8) college credit hours as recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE) through the completion of our pharmacy technician apprenticeship program

Basic Qualifications

* Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico)

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

* Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment

  • Prefer previous work experience with arenaflex
  • Prefer strong math skills to accurately fill prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications
  • Prefer computer skills
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory management
  • Prefer PTCB certification
