Pharmacist SME, Pharmacy Automation

About the position The Pharmacist SME, Pharmacy Automation will be responsible for leading and supporting the pharmacy team in efficiently utilizing automated dispensing equipment to dispense prescriptions in a mail-order pharmacy environment. You will work closely with prescription forecasts to assess automation configurations and inventory availability and develop strategies to maximize efficiency based on this data. You will be responsible for escalating support tickets to the automation vendor for issue resolution and coordinating with facility and pharmacy leadership for any necessary software updates. You will strive to maximize quality and patient safety while dispensing medication in accordance with federal and state pharmacy regulations. This role is based in New Albany, Ohio.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all pharmacy dispensing automation within the facility and workflow tasks that support the automated dispensing process.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all operational support tickets that are escalated to the automation vendor to ensure they are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Partner with pharmacy leadership to train and develop pharmacists and technicians working with automated dispensing systems in order to drive scalability and efficiency within the pharmacy from both a systems and workflow perspective.
  • Partner with pharmacy leadership to coordinate new process development and implementation plans for new processes.
  • Work closely with the facilities maintenance team to monitor and ticket any potential mechanical or electrical maintenance issues that may arise.
  • Analyze forecast data and develop strategies to maximize automation efficiency through proper inventory placement.
  • Analyze machine performance data to systematically address common points of failure, reducing downtime and maximizing throughput.
  • Collaborate on the development and review of standard operating procedures.
  • Work with Pharmacy and Ops leaders to ensure the pharmacists and tech team work in lock-step with each other and the needs of the business.
  • Practice all state and federal pharmacy regulations for the ordering, handling, and management of prescriptions and/or prescription drug products.
  • Follow all state and pharmacy regulations and rules as designated by the State of Pharmacy and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  • Maintain and promote all security and privacy rules regarding the use and handling of protected health information (PHI) in compliance with federal and state HIPAA regulations.
  • Update and maintain patient profile records as necessary according to state pharmacy regulations.
  • Promote and maintain a clean and sanitary work environment as mandated by the FDA's rules and regulations.
  • Provide a world class pharmacy experience for every one of our patients.
  • Perform regular pharmacist and pharmacist tech duties such as drug utilization reviews, medication label checks, patient counseling, drug information review as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy Required. (Doctorate preferred.)
  • 3+ years as practicing pharmacist required.
  • 1+ years experience utilizing pharmacy automation.
  • Effective knowledge of state and federal pharmacy laws, rules and regulations related to the practice of pharmacy.
  • Ability to work flexible shift times.
  • Proficiency in English, verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Windows based computer systems.
  • Ability to deliver and receive feedback and information effectively to individuals and groups.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and promote company culture.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift over 30lbs safely and independently.
  • Mail Service/Mail Order Pharmacy Experience.
  • PharmD - Licensed Pharmacist.
  • Active Pharmacist License in pharmacy's home state, or willing to get licensed there upon hire required.
  • Can work any shift in the Pharmacy/Fulfillment/Compounding teams.
