Early Childhood Classroom Consultant- Shelby County

Remote role Full-time Open position

The primary role of the Classroom Consultant is to provide services that build the capacity of the adults working with children to support and sustain healthy social and emotional development, prevent challenging behaviors and provide appropriate supports which effectively promote resilience of young children. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field including child development, special education, or developmental psychology, with a minimum of three (3) years experience in field. Prior classroom experience or work history within child serving system preferred. One (1) or more years of providing coaching or mentorship to early childhood providers strongly preferred. Ability for local travel required. Skills & Knowledge Required:

  • Knowledge of best practices in early childhood education, child care services, promotion of social-emotional development in young children, and collaboration with families
  • Knowledge and experience implementing the Pyramid Model framework or other evidence-informed social-emotional frameworks
  • Knowledge of early childhood mental health issues, child development, mental health delivery systems at the local and state levels, developmentally appropriate practice from infancy through school age, Early Intervention, accountability, community organizations, and systems building
  • Ability to form strong relationships with child care providers, directors, and caregivers from a variety of diverse backgrounds
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, Microsoft Outlook) and related technology
  • Experience facilitating professional development trainings and knowledge of adult learning theories
  • Commitment to system of care principles, cultural competency & effective teamwork
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team
  • Experience with data collection and analysis
  • Excellent organizational, communication, writing, and problem-solving/creative thinking skills
  • Access to reliable internet, transportation, auto-insurance, and ability to travel locally Duties & Responsibilities/Principal Activities:
  • Provide Child-centered, classroom, and programmatic consultation supports for adults supporting children birth to eight years associated with childcare, Head Start, pre-K and other child serving systems
  • Develop written support plans using a team approach to build adult capacity to utilize strengthsbased, relationship-focused support strategies that promote optimal social emotional development
  • Assist in the collection of pre/post service assessments and satisfaction surveys from service recipients
  • Facilitate professional development trainings in Pyramid Model and related topics for early educators, professionals, and parents/caregivers
  • Support Pyramid Model and related social emotional best practices at the individual child, classroom, and program level through coaching, training, data collection, and consultation
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and agency policies related to documentation, productivity, training requirements, program guidelines, and confidentiality
  • Participate in individual supervision, reflective supervision groups, agency staff meetings, and trainings
  • Participate in networking and community outreach activities as assigned
  • Submit timely and accurate documentation of services, time sheets, and other required paperwork
  • Ensure that we conform to CARF standards applicable to the services provided.
  • Pursue endorsement through the Association of Infant Mental Health in TN
