Join the Virtual Service Pilot Program and Make a Difference in Education

We are seeking highly motivated and experienced English teachers to join our Virtual Service Pilot Program (VSPP) in the Kyrgyz Republic. As a VSPP participant, you will have the opportunity to co-teach English with local teachers and administrators in secondary schools or higher education institutions, remotely from the US. This is a unique chance to make a positive impact on education in the Kyrgyz Republic, while gaining valuable experience in virtual teaching and collaboration.

About the Program

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic has partnered with Peace Corps to strengthen the English skills of teachers, directors, and regional educational authorities. The VSPP program aims to address four key areas:

• Improving teaching skills
• Enhancing English language skills
• Developing students' English skills
• Improving Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills in communities

Key Responsibilities

As a VSPP participant, you will engage in the following tasks:

• Co-assess the English technical skill level of counterpart teachers
• Co-create a work plan for co-teaching in English with students at a ministry school
• Co-plan and co-teach a minimum of one English lesson per week (1-2 hour sessions/week)

These tasks will be carried out in collaboration with your Host Country Partner and will require an estimated 5-15 hours of engagement per week. You will have the flexibility to choose your own schedule, but online collaboration will generally occur between 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Kyrgyz Republic time.

Essential Qualifications

To be eligible for this program, you must have:

• A Bachelor's degree in any field
• At least 1 year of experience in TEFL/English teaching for primary or secondary school students
• Flexible, strong cross-cultural agility, high tolerance for ambiguity, ability to work independently, resourceful, creative, and genuinely motivated and capable to serve virtually

Preferred Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with:

• A Master's degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), English as a Second Language (ESL), Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), foreign language, or Applied Linguistics
• Basic knowledge of Kyrgyz or Russian language
• Familiarity with virtual engagement and communication
• Experience training ESL/EFL teachers
• Experience in curriculum development
• Experience developing classroom management practices
