Job Overview

We invite applications for a Public Health/Health Equity scholar to be appointed as a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health beginning in August 2024. As an Assistant Professor - Public Health, you will have the opportunity to teach, conduct research, and engage in service activities that promote health equity and eliminate health disparities and social inequalities. Your expertise will contribute to the academic community's diversity and excellence at Wayne State University, and you will be part of a dynamic team that is committed to making a positive impact in metropolitan Detroit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach two courses per semester, including undergraduate and graduate level courses, and develop curriculum that promotes health equity and social justice
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students, including advising and mentoring students in research projects and academic pursuits
  • Conduct research leading to publications in top-tier journals and present findings at national and international conferences
  • Pursue external funding to support research projects and initiatives that address health disparities and social inequalities
  • Participate in service activities, including departmental, college, and university committees, and contribute to the development of policies and programs that promote health equity and social justice
  • Collaborate with community partners and stakeholders to develop and implement initiatives that address health disparities and social inequalities in metropolitan Detroit

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a PhD, DrPH, or equivalent doctoral degree in a public health-aligned discipline, or must have their degree conferred by August 15, 2024, for a position starting with the Fall 2024 semester. Candidates who additionally possess an MPH are encouraged to apply. Preferred Qualifications

  • Research expertise that complements those of the faculty in the Departments of Public Health and intersects with topics of broad public health significance
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, particularly in areas related to health equity and social justice
  • A strong record of publication in top-tier journals and presentation at national and international conferences
  • Experience pursuing external funding to support research projects and initiatives
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and communities
