About Southwest Airlines and the Technical Operations Team

The Technical Operations team is responsible for maintaining and improving the airline's aircraft, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and driving efficiency in maintenance operations. As a Powerplant Engineer, you will be an integral part of this team, working closely with various stakeholders to resolve technical issues and implement improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work on various engineering projects in a maintenance or operations environment, focusing on powerplant design, maintenance, and functionality.
  • Collaborate with powerplant manufacturers, such as CFM, and engine Support Specialist organizations to address technical, maintenance, and operational issues.
  • Evaluate engineering document procedures and methodologies to determine if changes are required, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and approve all engine maintenance, both on-wing and off-wing, with relevant departments and Field Maintenance Engineers.
  • Assist with special projects and events as requested, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Develop and apply technical knowledge and skills to drive improvements in powerplant maintenance and operations.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this role, you must possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline, such as Aerospace, Mechanical, or Aeronautical Engineering.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • The capacity to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications and skills are highly desirable:

  • Experience in the aviation industry, preferably with a major airline or maintenance organization.
  • Familiarity with powerplant design, maintenance, and functionality, including knowledge of relevant regulations and standards.
  • Previous experience working with powerplant manufacturers and engine Support Specialist organizations.
  • A strong understanding of engineering document procedures and methodologies.
