Job Overview

As a Special Education Teacher Assistant 1:1 (EVA), you will play a vital role in supporting students with disabilities, aged 3-21, in achieving their academic, behavioral, social, and functional goals. Under the guidance of a licensed special education teacher, you will assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), modeling necessary skills, and providing specialized care and support to students with diverse needs. Key Responsibilities

• Assist students with disabilities in academic, behavioral, social, and functional growth and development
• Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of work with students with disabilities and other staff
• Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials to meet the diverse needs of students
• Implement instructional programs and lesson plans, such as reading, math, language comprehension, writing, and computer skills
• Promote independence of students with disabilities and encourage self-advocacy
• Document students' daily activities, including behavior, completed assignments, and on/off task times
• Monitor individual and/or groups of students with disabilities in various settings, ensuring a safe and positive learning environment
• Provide specialized handling or care of students, such as toileting, diapering, and feeding
• Communicate and collaborate with teachers and other relevant personnel to evaluate student progress and implement IEP objectives
• Maintain classroom equipment and work area, ensuring a safe and clean learning environment
• Participate in meetings, professional development activities, and other events as assigned by the building or district administrator

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must possess:

• A valid Illinois Educator License with Stipulations - Paraprofessional or Professional Educator License or Substitute Teacher License
• Appropriate verbal and written language skills
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Effective interpersonal skills
• Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job
• Ability to use basic job-related equipment
• Ability to understand students' disabilities and apply this understanding to the responsibilities of the job
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and assist in lifting up to 50 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

• Experience working with students with special needs
• Knowledge of special education principles, practices, and procedures
• Familiarity with IEPs and their implementation
• Ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities
• Strong organizational and time management skills
