Job Summary

The 2024 Classified Educational Assistant - Instructional Assistant Title I will work under the guidance of licensed teachers to provide educational support to students in a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. This temporary position, available for the 2023-2024 school year, offers a unique chance to work with a diverse group of students, teachers, and staff. As an Instructional Assistant, you will be responsible for providing instructional support, tutoring, and supervision to students, as well as performing routine clerical tasks and maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional support and tutoring to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations
  • Assist teachers in assessment, supporting curriculum, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of students
  • Perform record-keeping and basic clerical functions, such as scheduling, copying, and maintaining student files and classroom materials
  • Confer with teachers to provide feedback on student performance and progress
  • Promote safety and well-being of students by monitoring individual students, classroom, and playground activities
  • Recognize and respond to escalating or emergency situations, and provide first aid and medical assistance as needed
  • Cross-train in various school functions and assist other personnel as required
  • Maintain classroom equipment, materials, and student files, and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Prior job-related experience, paid or volunteer, working with school-age children
  • A completed associate's degree or higher, or at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 college quarter hours or more)
  • Knowledge of principles of child development and instructional practices
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, computer programs, and applications (e.g., email, system applications, word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing)
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and policies
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on student-centered support

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience working with culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse communities
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to interpret, translate, and communicate in a second language
  • First Aid/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain
  • Previous experience as an Instructional Assistant or in a related role
