Experienced Teaching Assistant Professor - German Language and Culture Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant Professor to join our German language and culture team. As a key member of our faculty, you will be responsible for teaching a range of courses, including first-year language courses, humanities courses, and other relevant language courses. You will also contribute to the development of our German language and culture programs, participate in departmental and university service duties, and engage in research and scholarship.

Key Responsibilities

* Teach eight classes over three academic quarters, including first-year language courses, humanities courses, and other relevant language courses

  • Develop and implement a rigorous first-year curriculum, assessments, and evaluations
  • Coordinate the German sections in the FYLP and participate in program assessment and evaluation
  • Participate in CWLC meetings and committees, as well as CAHSS and University committees
  • Collaborate with CWLC colleagues and the department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures program faculty on recruitment and language advocacy initiatives
  • Develop and implement culturally responsive teaching practices and innovative teaching and learning approaches
  • Engage in research and scholarship, with opportunities for publication and presentation

Essential Qualifications

* Master's degree or ABD in German Studies, German Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition with a focus on German, or Education

  • Native or near-native fluency level in German and English
  • 1-2 years of teaching experience of a university-level German course in the United States
  • Evidence of teaching using task-based, communicative methodologies and culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Experience or willingness to learn course management systems such as Canvas
  • Availability to teach classes "face-to-face" in physical classrooms at the University of Denver

Preferred Qualifications

* Ph.D. in German Studies, German Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition with a focus on German, or Education

  • 3+ years of previous experience teaching a university-level course in German in the United States as the primary instructor
  • Experience in program development and extended residence or travel in the German-speaking world
  • Experience interacting with and effectively teaching diverse communities of students
  • Experience managing a course via Canvas

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

* Competitive salary range: $58,000 - $60,000 per year
