About Our Team and the Role

As a Senior Data Analyst in our Credit & Fraud Risk Finance group, you'll play a critical role in driving fact-based, decision-driven, and high-impact Net Loss Provision forecasts and credit risk-related insights. You'll be challenged to design and develop deep analytics by leveraging advanced methodologies in forecasting techniques, performing data analyses, modeling, synthesizing conclusions, and communicating recommendations to key stakeholders and partners.

This role is part of a highly talented team with a strong intellectual curiosity, operating within a collaborative environment that interacts with and influences partners across the Finance GSG and CFR organizations at American Express. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Risk Management by evaluating strategic decisions, organizing profitability linkages between customer behaviors, fraud, and credit provision, and driving credit-related analytical insights to key stakeholders, including Risk, Collections, Marketing, and finance teams.
  • Partner with Risk and Finance teams on cross-functional strategic projects by driving key analytics to inform business decisions and shape the company's future direction.
  • Drive awareness of data/insights/market/portfolio trends across organizations and proactively identify opportunities for analyses that can drive business growth and improvement.
  • Provide thought leadership on initiatives across the Global Risk Finance organization to help American Express meet its long-term growth targets and stay ahead of the competition.
  • Work on the economic planning process on metrics that impact the net loss provision on a daily basis, ensuring that the company remains agile and responsive to changing market conditions.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A strong background in Risk Management, finance, or a related field, with a deep understanding of credit risk and analytics.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and develop complex data models and analyses.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and partners across the organization.
  • A strong understanding of data visualization tools and techniques, with the ability to present complex data insights in a clear and compelling way.
  • A bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, such as finance, economics, or mathematics, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

To stand out as a candidate, you'll ideally have:

  • A master's degree in a quantitative field, such as finance, economics, or mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a risk management or finance role, preferably in the credit card or financial services industry.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, such as Python, R, or SQL, and experience working with large datasets.
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques and their application in credit risk modeling and analytics.
  • A strong track record of delivering high-impact projects and driving business growth through data-driven insights.
